ziwa beach resort and bamburi zone in early february

Looking for accomodiation for a weekend in early february.

How is this Ziwa resort? Seems nice, but there's also really annoying comments about bad service and sloppy breakfast.. Was there a fire in september? There's rumours that bar and pool are still closed.

Anyway atmosphere seems nice in pics, how is this location? Is Mombasa city really far away, I believe a one day by taxi would be enough at there? We are looking for a relaxation, but also something to do, not only laying on the pool. Some small shopping and safety also.

Any good and about same priced options for accomodation?

Papillon Garden Bar Villa in Bamburi is quite a decent budget option. Nothing fancy, w/Pool & clean rooms

More expensive ( Mid-Range ) is Kahama

There used to be two hotels with similar names close to each other on Bamburi Beach, one was Bamburi Beach Hotel, a large hotel that used to cater mainly for international tourists and Bamburi Beach Resort which was a smaller budget hotel that catered mainly for local tourists. Bamburi Beach Resort became Ziwa Beach Resort but it suffered a lot of damage and lost a lot of its chalet type rooms in a fire in September this year. Later reports said it suffered 60% damage. See

Mombasa Town is easy to get to by taxi from Bamburi Beach and so are the shops, bars, cafes and restaurants in and around the two shopping malls where Bamburi and Nyali meet. The Nyali Beach hotels are even closer to both, plus there are also a cinema, a water park and an amusement park in Nyali.

For suggestions for budget accommodation have a look at the "FAQ - self catering apartments, budget hotels, guest houses, etc" at the top right of this page (if you are using a smartphone to view this you will need to select the desktop view). It is not up to date as Tripadvisor has removed the ability to edit Traveller Articles which are what are behind the FAQs.

You could do that, but I recommend just going on Booking.com, punching in your location and dates, and seeing exactly what is available at what prices. It's the simplest way to shop and compare accommodation.

Yes, its simple like that. But I've never been there before, so its quite confusing if there's same pictures in many places. Comments tell there's not bars or pools because of fire, but believe me, booking page is not advertising closing of those :)

Thanks for your help, probably going to near Bamburi.
