Voyager Beach Hotel

Hi We're off to the Voyager Beach next Friday. Has anyone been recently? Is it still the same high standard? Is there anything we should be made aware of, apart from the Beach Boys.

Haven't been to Kenya before - is it safe walking out at night, either on the beach or on the roads?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Jowen

Still the same old Voyager - we don't want it to change! One thing to be aware of is the smoking zones.

Please dont walk out once its dark, especially on the beach. Use a taxi to take you out and bring you back. Do get out and about during the day though and dont listen to the reps telling you its dangerous.

Don't worry about the beach boys. They are so friendly, can get you anything you want. The prices are so cheap. I have got some amazing wood carvings from them. One of them wrapped up a huge wooden giraffe for me, made it easy for me to carry on my flight home. Theresa will give you a great relaxing massage for 1000 shillings. Just visit them.

We have just returned from the Voyager after a fantastic two week stay.

Ok some of it can do with some repairs, but overall its perfect.

You will never meet people/staff anywhere else like we did in the Voyager, they have nothing, thier wages are a pittance, but thier smiles, friendleness and helpfulness is to be believed.

Would suggest though, if you have a mind to, is to tip if you can, even 50 shillings or 100 shillings is such a great help to them, when thier average daily wage as a trainee is 150 shillings per day, and the ones who are already trained get the huge wage of 250 shillings per day, its absolutely disgusting how piffy thier wages are, bearing in mind the high cost of food, the hotel could well afford to pay them more, as they work bloody hard.

As to the beach boys......, Ah well....thats another story, but will post more on the beach boy thread.

Just another thing, there is loads of steps, its good if you want to keep fit lol.

If you want to go into Shanzu village and see Mikoroshoni Primary School please ask Victor the Thomsom rep. even if you are not with Thomsons. He will arrange to take you as he has supported the project since we started it 12 years ago.

If you want more info then please go to our web site

Hope you enjoy your trip to Voyager

We emailed and requested a smoking room. The ash tray was ready and waiting for us when we arrived.Nothing was to much trouble.

Hi househusband

Who did you email, as I have tried emailing about the private transfer from airport to Voyager but not heard anything back yet, this was about two weeks ago, maybe I am being too impatient. We go on 12th December.
