Amazing photos of the Likoni ferry

on pages 2 & 3 of the e-edition of today's Nation

…nationmedia.com/DN/DN/2010/01/15/index.shtml

Unfortunately the e-edition has a different front page to the paper I bought which also had a half page photo of the ferry in mid-channel with every available inch packed even on the prow door which was down in the water but with a solid mass of people stood on it a couple of feet from the water

A disaster waiting to happen - what a nightmare for all those passengers . I read there are appx: 190.000 passengers and 3,000 motorists . The mind boggles at such catastrophe ..

Reading on a bit and seeing the comment about the ruddy things"drifting" to the side each time [ would be very funny if it wasnt so serious -] is, almost like an episode from a comedy script !!!!

Know my hubbie went over on this to Diani on Wednesday, said it was really frightening, he actually sent me some photos of the overcrowding & the throngs of people. For the record he waited 2.5hrs on one side & a further 2 hrs getting back on the other side, as you say Edna a disaster waiting to happen !!!

I was on there just after new years, and it was chaos.

On the mainland there was a queue right into Mombasa !!

some people had been waiting up to 6 hours!!

The crowds of rushing passengers was unbeliveable (at one piont thought a riot was going to break out)

Police everywhere, trying to do some thing (what I am not sure)

Wonder how many people have missed their flights coming up from Diani?

I don't want to spread droom and gloom, but deja vue, a repeat of a few years ago is bound to happen soon.

Tembofan

I believe flights have occasionally been held back recently while Diani-based tourists wait for the ferry, but this is feels like very bad news for the South Coast for the next three months.

It's worth reminding people that Mombasa Air Safari operates a daily morning flight from Mombasa to Diani Beach, and vice versa every afternoon. It won't coincide with many charter flights, but it's worth knowing about. Only $20 each way (though very limited availability).

I am staying at the Baobab next week. Should I be contacting Thomson? It all sounds very worrying.
