Well said mallamombasa. Part of what's wrong here *is* just this kind of thing though - 12th-century views and un-Christian attitudes towards anything perceived as a threat. Don't let the "gays" in! They're dangerous! They're a threat to our god-fearing and totally Christian lifestyles (yeah, right). Oh, everyone goes to church on a Sunday, yes; but those same churchgoers are the ones espousing greed and corruption every single other day of their life. The hypocrisy and viciousness is breathtaking. What was it Jesus allegedly said about sin? "Love the sinner, hate the sin." Something most seem incapable of doing here. It's not very nice at all :-(

We didn't actually see it we were at La Veranda and Nakumatt at the time, but apart from the concept and some of the quotes two other things bothered me, the main ones is the attempted lynching, there seems to have been a lynching or attempted lynching every few days somewhere in the country in the last few weeks.

The second was the number of people who were obviously just acting up to the camera on KTN News (it would take no time at all generating a mob in Mtwapa, there are young guys sat around everywhere, maybe a lot of them just got involved as something to do or to be on camera - wonder how the cameras happened to be there anyway

Very sad. It has to change (South Africa is remarkably progressive on LGBT issues since democracy arrived in the early 1990s and people there just seem to have just dealt with the changes and moved on). The whole issue of homosexuality being illegal in Kenya is really beginning to make waves locally, especially since a Kenyan gay couple got married in the UK last year. The current laws aren't in any way indigenous, in any case, just part of the fossilised penal code Kenya inherited from Britain in 1963.

Crazy. And bad for business too.
