Lamu to Mombasa by bus

I will be taking a bus from Lamu to Mombasa and have the following questions. If anyone can answer - thanks in advance.

1. Of the several bus companies that ply this route, which is the safest and most reliable?

2. What are the departure times from Mokowe?

3. I'll be staying at Kahama, and looking at the map, it seems to be located right off the road the bus will take going to Mombasa . Would it be possible to get off there, to avoid backtracking from Mombasa town?

1. Take the Tawakal Bus Co.

2. Not sure, but you can contact Tawakal or somebody else can give advice.

3. Yes - you can ask the driver to drop you off Kahama in Bamburi

Just a thought - the journey from Lamu to Malindi can take upto 5-6 hrs on some pretty rough roads. Might be a good idea to spend overnight in Malindi & also do some sightseeing before proceeding to MBA on a Express Matatu.

We prefer Tawakal Bus and Tahmeed Bus. The first departure is 7 am (reporting time at the jetty in Lamu 6 am) and the last at 1 pm..
