visiting china immediately after golden week

I understand golden week is to be avoided, but what about the week immediately after golden week, 8th -15th? What can one expect? Will it be:

(i) all nice and quiet

(ii) equally bad with millions still trying to make their way home or back to work, people who extended their hols etc

(iii) ok with getting about, but all sights lay in ruins and service staff are still recovering from the ordeal?

Am thinking of flying into Shanghai, and going to suzhou/hangzhou and/or going inland to Zhengzhou and shaolin

it will be ok. however, you will still see hordes of domestic tourists, it is just not as maddening as the golden week.

FYI, shaolin is very commercialized now. in a way, it is sad because a temple should not be like that. but you will love the kung-fu demo though.

have fun.

Most Chinese tourists will back home by 7th Oct. So it is OK for you to start your tour from 8th Oct. By the way, Oct. is one of the best seasons to travel China, there must be many tourists as well though not amazing. At the meantime, avoiding first golden week of Oct. can also save you a lot of money on hotel and other service.
