iPhone imessage

Can I still use this facility whilst travelling on holiday in China, or should I go with standard messaging. Just interested in the cost factor. I would only use it where I had wi-fi available.

Thanks

I travel to China, Shanghai in particular, regularly. iMessage and Face Time work well, usually. There's a caveat in the word usually. On occasion, internet service is fair to poor. As you may know, Internet hacking in China is wide-spread and deep as reported by the New York Times. Chinese officials say they can't control what they aren't responsible for. I find that a bit hard to believe considering how tightly China controls the Internet.

Something else to consider. China doesn't concede personal privacy. Your hotel room may be bugged. No, I'm not kidding or paranoid. It's just a fact of life in Chinese hotels, particularly hotels catering to foreign nationals, especially Western foreign nationals.

Needs wifi connection or it can be pretty bad if using celluar. Particularly from say shanghai sim in other places. Strangely it is better than skype. I can have skype almost unusable - use facetime and its good - globally. Find weixin or wechat to be better than skype as well.
