Money Change

Would taxi driver take american money or should you change money at the airport?

One post said that the hotel did not take traveler's checks but only cash to exchange. Is this common?

Do you need an electrical convertor for the room?

Will my laptop work there?

You have to change to local currency--taxi drivers won't take US dollars.

Most larger hotels will convert traveler's checks as well as dollars but overall cash is easier to exchange.

You can also change either at airport money changing windows.

Hotels and some large shops and restaurants will accept credit cards, but most places, you need to pay with local cash.

1) No one will want USD unless they're going to rip you off.

2) Depends on your hotel.

4) No, it'll play instead. ;)

Only chinese money here. get some at the airport at the money Exchange counter or use your bank card at the ATM next to where you pick up your luggage.

Have you hotel name written in chinese. The chinese name is not even close to sounding like the english name.

In some hotel rooms you don't need a converter as their outlet can handle your computer. if not almost all hotels will lend you one.

Most places dont accept Credit cards, except the large stores/restaurants. Some of them display Visa cards accepted, but this may not include international visa cards, but only local ones! Be sure to enquire before you shop.

The UK 3 pin sockets has been the most common adaptor I have seen in the hotels. I have also seen US sockets in some hotels.

Laptops have in built transformers and hence these work well.
