Tours of China

We are planning a trip of a lifetime to China in 2009. Has anyone been on Realm of the Dragon tour with Saga? We have had good experiences with this company but are concerned this tour packs to much into a short space of time.

Hi Pip

I've not done the tour you mention but I've just returned from a 27 day 11 city tour of China. We started off by thinking about Shanghai, Beijing & Xian and the more research we did, the more our ideas changed.

I've posted my review on here, let me know if you can't find it if you're interested in reading it.

I've taken a quick look at your Saga tour and we didn't go to Nanjing, so I'm not sure what there is to see there to make it worthwhile a stopover.

The Saga tour states 'one night aboard aircraft'.

TBH, tours are tiring enough with a full night sleep, to be travelling overnight on a plane would really put me off.

Any touring holiday will pack sightseeing into a very short time.

As you say, this will be a trip of a lifetime (as ours was) so I'd do loads of research on different companies and itineraries.

I'd start by deciding which places are 'must-do' and which are on the 'wish-list'.

Here are some companies that I looked at before we actually booked:

We are also planning a trip of a lifetime to China but in 2010. I have looked at the Saga itinerary and thought it seems very packed but not as frantic as some other companies. As this will be something completely different to anything we have ever done before I would appreciate some advice from someone who has experienced it and so would be interested to know how you get on!Thanks!
