Good side trip from Beijing for kids?

Traveling with 3 kids and we have 3 days of siteseeing in Beijing planned with a guide/driver. We do have 1 day free - any recommendations for a possible side trip from Beijing? We probably would want to come back that evening to Beijing.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Hello, you will find most of the places to go to in Beijing itself.

I guess you are going to a section of the great wall:) If you are doing the Mutianyu part you could continue on to the little township of Mutinayu itself. You could also stop at The schoolhouse for lunch. This may appeal to your kids. The owners bought this abandoned school & turned it into an eatery & guesthouse. It still has the original classrooms and blackboard.

There are the different Tombs dotted around Beijing but don't think they will appeal to kids.

There is Chuandixia which I have read about but haven't been. On the too to list. It is 100km away from Beijing. It is a tiny village of about 70 people on a steep mountainside. Has traditional Ming & Qing dynasty architecture that has survived the bulldozers of Beijing.

Most of the attractions for kids are in Beijing itself.

There is the zoo with a new Panda enclosure.

The Sony explorascience in the Chaoyang district (but you probably have something similar at home).

The Planetarium. There are also a few amusement parks _ but once again if you only have a dew days you are better off concentrating on the sites.

Give the Hutong tour on the rickshaws a go as it is fun.

My girls have just turned 14 & 18 & it's easy to keep them occupied - Shopping!!! lol.

If you do a search on the Beijing forum ie Kids activities you are bound to find something. Or try Google:)

I do not know how old your kids are and when you go to Beijing.

Cuandixia is a nice place to go and have a local lunch there. Also the Shidu area is nice if the weather is good. They have boating, bungy jumping etc.

If your kids are adventurous you could go to one of the less cultivated parts of the Great Wall.
