HK permanent resident visiting Shenzhen

I live in Australia and will visit Hong Kong this Christmas during which time I want to visit Shenzhen for two or three days. Would I be better off applying for a home return permit from the China Travel Service or just get the VOA at Lo Wu using my Australian passport?

You can't get a home return permit as you're not a Chinese national. You need to get a regular visa or the VOA Shenzhen-only visa.

Whilst I meet some of the conditions of the CNL I fall down where in Article 8 it states "a person whose application for naturalisation as a Chinese national has been approved shall not retain foreign nationality".

Oh well, I'll just get a VOA at the border then.

Are these still the 5-day single entry ones and up the escalators on the left after HK Immigration?

I'm curious on what basis you are a HK Permanent Resident? Does your HKID card have *** on it?

If so you are probably already a Chinese Citizen.

Yes it does have 3 stars and I therefore have right to land and right of abode. But other than the condition about losing my foreign nationality some of the other articles cast doubt on whether I could be regarded as a Chinese National.

No - the *** says that you are a Chinese Citizen. The A (as in AZ*** or AO***) says that you have right of abode.

You can apply for a home return permit (but it can take several weeks).
