overnight stay in HKG

Hi:

I'll be going with my 9 year old son to Vietnam in March. There are cheap flights to HKG, and a cheap flight from HKG to Ho Chi MInh City, but the connections don't work.

Would it be worth it to spend a night in HKG on the way there and back? Are there any cheap but clean places to stay with a 9 year old? Are there things of interest to see for children?

Would we need a visa for HKG, and would that even work if it's 1 night on each leg of our journey?

Thanks,

Kay

Hong Kong is a very safe place, it would be nice to know what you regard as cheap. Failing that, search this site for someone called 'anyquestions', they have a list of decent cheap accommodations. There is plenty for a nine year old to do in Hong Kong, for instance there is a small Disneyland, there is Ocean Park other theme park, if he's interested, there is the Museum of coastal defence, there is a small zoo. There is also Madame Tussaud's at the top of the peak which you get to by dying on the Peak Tram a reasonable experience in itself. In fact my eight-year-old really love just riding on the MTR. There are also shops that specialise in that collectable plastic stuff that seems to fascinate kids.

I would rather just buy a ticket myself.....your suggestion does seems a bit extreme. Interesting concept though.

Hi,

You can take a look at the link below - It leads to 3 or 4 articles about a STOPOVER HOLIDAY IN HONG KONG, including a long article about "Overnight stopover in Hong Kong" and another one about the most recommended cheap hotels in HK.

There are also some good suggestions there for people who want to see Hong Kong's "must sees" in a day or two:
