Eight hours (ish) in HK - what can we do?

We have about eight hours to spend in Hong Kong between flights (first leg gets into HK at 1320, departing leg leaves at 2335) so am looking at suggestions of what we can do in that time please.

Two adults, a 16 year old and a 14 year old. No real interest in shopping, would like to see sunset over the harbour if possible, and get something to eat.

Are there tours etc that can be booked on arrival, or do they need to be booked ahead? Is the public transport system good? Never been before, so what shouldn't we miss in this short window of opportunity? :-)

Eight hours is ample for doing a bit of sightseeing. There are tours but I'm not sure how their arranged. Someone will know. But the public transport system in Hong Kong is so brilliant and so cheap that it seems to me to be just as easy, if your needs are simple, to jump on a train and go into town and look round. Hong Kong International airport is very efficient, so you could be in central Hong Kong in an hour and a half or thereabouts if not sooner. I would suggest the airport express (train). You could go to the Peak and watch the sunset from there, if you get off on Kowloon side you could ride over the harbour on the Star Ferry take the Peak Tram, and get something to eat almost anywhere. Restaurants are ubiquitous.

Great suggestions - and if you still have time to spare when you get off the Peak Tam, just around the corner from the terminus in Hong Kong park, is the most magnificent Bird aviary, An elevated walkway takes you through the canopy of trees - right amongst the birds. Kids just love it . AND - Its Free !
