Brushing teeth... of course. To drink? It's up to you.

Many hotels provide 2 small bottles of complimentary drink water. And also many provide a small water boiler... really handy. 3 cups of water boiled in only 3-4 minutes.

This is a fraught topic. I do it in a 4-5 star MODERN hotel. Water's OK when it leaves thr reservoir it's the pipes that cause the problems.

Most people here boil their water before drinking. For tooth brushing, no boiling is necessary.

Bottled water is cheap.

A water authorities official said in a local TV documentary that "it's better to boil your tap water at home", after drinking a glass of water straight from the tap inside the water treatment facility. It's what happens between the treatment plant and your tap.

True locals always drink filtered and/or boiled tap water at home.

Unlike Beijing or many other cities in China/Asia, Hong Kong's tap water does not smell funny nor is it 'hard'. It's certainly safe for brushing your teeth but less suitable for drinking. Locals usually purchase a water filter and/or boil it.
