It really depends on what u r eating. For Hk cafe, it can range from hkd20-50 inclusive of tea/ coffee.

Thei transport is quite cheap. Even if its a cab, the fare is abt hkd 20 -30 if you are travelling within Hk or Kowloon island. It will be ex if you travel from Hk to Kowloon or vice versa

If you don't mind having the occasional McDonalds meal. They are really cheap compared to the U.K.

Hi, thinking of going to Hong Kong near Victoria Harbour, don't know what hotel to use yet, but can anyone tell me about tips, how much for taxi, restaurant, etc, don't want to upset anyone by not giving enough tip.

Jon: Please start your own new thread. Since your question is unrelated to the one by OP, people get confused answering two different questions in the same thread. Thanks.

There may not be a need to start another thread. The "tipping in Hong Kong" topic has been discussed and debated in length. Do a search in that subject you should find plenty of information. (Basically - no extra tip needed for taxi, just round up the figure. Restaurants typically charge 10% gratuity and no need for additional tips.)

Hi whitn002, well, as you will be having BnB, maybe you could skip lunch..then have tea and that supper.

There are few threads on how much spending monies required posted by many and discussed.

A more recent one was from my country man,for three persons, meals were in region of HKD120-HKd180.

As for sightseeing, it depends where...many of sightseeing places have their respective websites, which if require rides or entrance fees, have information on prices.

Then using the MTR website- journey planner- it shows the fare costs if using an Octopus or otherwise. If you look at right side of screen, there is top questions about HK,and Octopus is also covered..in case you are wondering what is an Octopus.

A "millionaire" coming over to HK.

Have a lovely time in Lombok(do not miss Gili islands and also enjoy ride on cidomo) and also Hong Kong.

We travel to Asia a lot and find that wether we are in Bali or Singapore, 2 complete opposites, we always get by on about $100 Aust a day for a couple.

We eat in the markets and food courts, never restaurants and we shop in markets, only going in to shopping centers if they are having sales.

We walk a lot and don't drink a lot of alcohol.

So I am anticipating that hong kong be the same....I hope so.

I always think its your choice to make it cheap or expensive :)
