Please read the Top Questions threads at the right. In particular, click on "HK Island vs Kowloon". Generally speaking, as long as you are near the MTR line between Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui on the Kowlloon side, or North Point to Sheung Wan on the Island side, you will be ok.

The hole-in-the-wall restaurants are slowly disappearing in Tsim Sha Tsui probably due to high rent. Wanchai has tons of these. Luckily there are still plenty in Sham Shui Po.

Using Google Map, input an area in Hong Kong (for example, Mongkok, Tsim Sha Tsui, or Causeway Bay), click "search nearby", enter "hotel", and you'll see the hotels in that area.
