Transportation to New Kai Tak Cruise Terminal

We just returned to Singapore by Mariner Of The Seas through the New Kai Tak Cruise Terminal.

Armed with a picture of the Cruise Terminal, we were rejected by 3 taxis to transport us to the cruise terminal. We managed with the help of the 4th taxi. From Nathan Road (Holiday Inn) the cost was HK$92 for 4 passengers & 3 medium-size bags.

A total of 1,500 passengers were Hong Kong residents who joined the cruise and that made up about 40%. Cruise liners do not provide coach transfers. The authorities should consider providing transport connection for the tourists as well as the locals. One way in doing that could be to upgrade Mini Bus #86 from Kowloon Bay MTR Station to a bigger bus similar to the airport bus.

Just hoping that this suggestion helps.

Thanks for the update 33kim33. I didn't realize Hong Kong taxi drivers can pick and choose customers.

In theory, at least, taxis can't pick and choose customers but the regulations aren't enforced. Under the taxi regulations a taxi driver can't refuse to accept a hire or refuse to drive the taxi to any place indicated by the hirer "without reasonable excuse". They probably don't want to go to the new cruise terminal owing to its isolated location with little prospect of a return fare.

It appears that the Government doesn't intend reconsidering public transport arrangements for the new cruise terminal until after the second berth is commissioned in mid-2014;

Actually I did not worry at all knowing that taxis are plenty in Hong Kong. I was very confident that at least one will take us there.

Having a photo to show the taxi driver helps a lot.

Thanks for your comments.
