Advice required - please help

Travelling to HK for the first time with a family of 4 in first week if Jan'14... With 2 boys age 7 and 5 years. We have visited Singapore , KL and Bangkok and also Las Vegas ( without children) earlier this year and wanted to experience Hong Kong now

Aim is to show the children Disneyland and have a much needed family vacation . Eating and shopping is always high on priority in holidays for us.

Looking to spend 6 nights, 3 nights in HK, 1 night in Disneyland and 2 nights in Macua. Request help in addressing a few questions

1. Recommendations on Hotels which allow children with extra bed. Budget roughly USD 100 - 120. Should be a safe, clean hotel and in a lively neighbourhood and close to a tram/ metro station ( 5 min walk). We would hardly be spending time in the hotel so not looking for anything fancy, would rather spend money on other things - so a 3 star would be ok as long as it meets the above criteria.

Basis my reading on tripadvisor a few names which have come up in HK are Hotel LBP, Royal Park, Dorsett Mongkok and ibis Central...not sure if service apartments would be a good option, we did have a great stay in Kuala Lumpur in a service appartment as a family last year

2. Is it worth spending a night in Disney land or day trip is sufficient, since I understand the hotel options are expensive in Disney land. Any recommendation which hotel here ?

3. Must do activities with children, don't want to be very tired so will restrict to top 2-3 things including Disneyland

Hope January is a good time otherwise had initially planned to do this holiday in june'14.

Request experts to advice on the above. Thank you in advance

I personally don't think staying at Disneyland hotel is necessary in HK especially for just 1 night. The travelling to/from the park from the city is fairly easy and quick. It probably would be more hassle for you to change hotel back and forth for staying 1 night at Disneyland. But if you schedule your trip well, you might be able to stay at Disney before flying home.

January time is definitely a lot cooler than June. The bonus is that January tends to stay dry whereas June is the rainy season.

I stayed at Disney hotel for 1 night (family of four with a 1 and 3 years old) and was somewhat disappointed. The room is Victorian style which is nice but not really something I expected. This was actually my very first trip to Disneyland, I thought the rooms will be disney themed too, but it is not..

Staying at any one of the hotel will allow the use of their facilities at both hotels. And there is free shuttle buses to take you to Disneyland and between hotels.

So, in my opinion if you decide to stay there, then just go for the Hollywood hotel which is much cheaper!!

The character dining buffet was pretty good. Dinner was more for adults, as the food options are limited for kids and they are tired after a long day. The character breakfast buffet I would highly recommend, my boys wake up refreshed and happy and the food were more kids friendly.

I will recommend going to Ocean Park instead of Disney Land. The HK Disneyland is relatively small. If you have been to others, it may not worth visiting the HK one.

On the other hand, Ocean Park gives you more than cartoon characters/rides. You will get to meet the animals (pandas, marines), cable car, roller coasters, ancient Chinese garden, marine show, etc. A day at Ocean Park is worth going! (considering OP and Disney cost around the same).

Museum of Coastal Defence is good. Close to mall with a skating rink.

I also don't think you need to stay at Disneyland hotel. It's easy to travel from HK to Disney. I also don't think you should spend 2 nights in Macau. One night is enough, esp since you are not going to gamble.

Thanks for the suggestions...this is vacation has been specially planned for the kids and they were promised a visit to Disneyland. This is our first time to a Disneyland and ideally would have wanted to go to US but don't see that happening for a while .

So we basis the suggestions tending NOT to spend a night since the rooms cost 300USD ! So would you agree a 4 night stay in HK first and 2 night in Macua in the end be a good split of 6 nights ?

1. Hotel recommendations required urgently pl- I have been able to shortlist a few close to a budget if USD 120

basis tripadvisor reviews

HK : Dorsett Mongkok, Royal Park, harbour plaza north, harbour plaza city, Ibis central , holiday inn Kowloon eat

please tell me which one to book amongst these or if there are others which I should book? Considering we want to be close to metro, travelling with kids, so needs to be a clean, safe and a lively area to step out at night for strolling or catching a drink or food.

Macua : Sheraton Macua, hotel sintra, royal Macua

We won't gamble, but would like to step out and walk to a close by bar / casino and soak I the atmosphere and yet be close to our hotel...which one bets fits our requirement

2 . is ferry the ideal and recommended way to reach Macua with kids ? How long dos it take and where can one find details / pre book them ?

So out of 4 days in HK, one we will dedicate to Disneyland and the other to ocean park, remaining 2 days we will do city tour and shopping for clothes and house hold stuff .. Suggestion and recommendation are welcome on what should we be doing in HK ( besides Disney/ ocean park) and Macua

Thank you all once again...destination experts pls suggest

Please suggest hotels or service appartments...would Kowloon are in general be the place to stay for first time visitor with kids, who is interested to shop, eat local street food, see the hustle bustle of the city ...besides going to Disney and Ocean park...don't want to change frequent trams or be more than 15-20 minutes away from the lively parts of HK
