can someone recommend a good Shanghaiese or Chiu chow restau

HI, I am looking forward to try Shanghaiese or Chiu chow food In HK especially Chiu chow which for

some reason we cannot find in SF Bay area.

Can someone recommend one in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Central or Sheung Wan or TST area?

Just family style casual style is ok, does not have to be really fancy

thanks so much

Please filter at www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/index.htm

For Shanghaiese, my favorites are at TST and North Point. Sorry, don’t know family restaurant.

For Chiu Chow family restaurants, my favorites at Sheung Wan and Kowloon City.

Sorry, I won’t mention the name.

Do a search by cuisine and location on openrice.com. Read the reviews.

There are Chiu chow restaurants in SF too. Do a search on Yelp.

Hi,

for Chiu Chow, I am always comfortable and enjoy my food at Pak Loh Chiu Chow.

Previously it was so convenient for me,as they had one branch at my neighbourhood- Fortress Hill.

Their one at Hysan Ave(Causeway Bay) is your best option. THough if you wish to be having it in TST, I suggest their branch in Elements or if you wish to be in more heart of hustle and bustle- their branch in K11 art mall.

For Shanghai food- am comfortable too at Wu Kong at their branch in Lee Theatre (Causeway Bay) or now I heard they also relocated one of their branch to Food Forum at Times Square(13F).

Lu Yang Chun in WTC is also fine with me.

I like Chiuchow Garden 潮江春 (run by Maxim's group). They are okay. With a few branches, including one at Central.

Specialty dishes that I like:

川椒雞

And Chiuchow style lo shui goose.

鹵水鵝片

There are lots of Shanghai style restaurants... small, family-run, hole-in-the-wall outfits. When you see a big round shallow flat iron pot near the entrance, frying potstickers and san jing bao... walk in! :)

Nam Kee in Kowloon City is one of my favorite Chiu Chow restaurants. There is no decor and seating is crowded. But the food is very authentic and old style. They have sets if you can't decide what to order. Go early if you don't fancy a long wait.

Chui chow style... there are many family-run, not-so-known brandnames restaurants all over the city serving Chiu Chow style "da noun" 打冷 - meaning serving food entrees cold (room temperature, pre-cooked)... items such as boiled peanuts, cuttlefish slices, goose feet, etc.. and to wash down with Chiu Chow style congee (thinner than Guangzhou style congee).

You can recognize them... they typically have basins of cold food at the store front, scooped to order. And they hang their lo shui goose and cuttle fish (and some with cold, cooked crabs) at the chopping counter.
