First time visit

So we're landing Dec. 31st (New Years Eve!) Spending 3 nights. Looking for suggestions as to where to stay. Would like to be in a tourist area, easy transportation to and from airport, budget around 1200 - 1800 HKD per night. Area and or Hotel suggestions?

Many Thanks

Hello jubjub2

Welcome to the Hong Kong forum.

It is good of you to start planning this far in advance. The holiday period books up quickly and room rates can be pricey. I will want to also keep in mind that dinner bookings at popular restaurants will be required several months in advance as well.

If you browse past discussions, as hinted at by cookie above, you will find most recommendations for finding a hotel near an MTR station. Most popular options are in HK Island between Causeway Bay and Sheung Wan districts and in Kowloon, from TST up to Mongkok, along Nathan Road. Anything in these areas will be fine. If you want harbourview rooms, be ready for a higher spend.

Good luck with your hotel search and hope you enjoy Hong Kong.

You can check for 3 stars hotels (4 stars if you are lucky) with your budget.

4 stars

The Novotel Nathan Road - Jordan, close to temple street market and MTR, small rooms but adequate services

Eaton - Jordon, close to temple street market and MTR, room size ok and good services

Hotel Madera - Boutique Hotel in Jordan, personalized services, beautiful rooms, a bit less convenient

3 stars

Metropark Mongkok - Mongkok, close to ladies market and MTR. room size ok

Cityview hotel - Yau Ma Tei, close to temple street market and MTR, room size ok

We recently stayed at the Marco Polo Hotel and loved it and its location.

While in Hong Kong be sure to go out to take the aerial car ride out to see the big Buddha. Very interesting!

The Marco Polo is a nice 4 stars hotel but unfortunately it will be over the budget for the OP during NYE. Besides, the roads around the area where the hotel is will be closed for transportation early in the evening until past midnight on NYE. And that area will be super chaotic then. It will be fun to browse around that area but I don't think it will be convenient for arriving that day

Might be a problem with your budget if you want a really nice hotel. We first selected a 4* overlooking the harbour on the Kowloon side but it was very expensive. So we looked at 'best value' hotels in HK on TA and found reviews of the Island Pacific Hotel located on HK Central. They won a TA award in 2013. It is a 3 to 3.1/2 star hotel but we got a great deal on Agoda for 3 nights under 500 Aus dollars for a room with a full harbour view. The hotel was very clean and comfortable, although it is getting a bit dated. Staff were fantastic, they have a free shuttle and it was convenient for everything. Check the Agoda site for other hotels.

I just entered your dates on Priceline. On the Express Deals page (no bidding required) they have a four star hotel in West Hong Kong Island for $135 in Canadian dollars a night. You could also try the bidding process and save even more. Also look at Hotwire.
