Chengdu is the gateway to Tibet, therefore a few local agecies do the travel business related with Tibet, and booking train tickets is their normal service. It is reliable to book train tickets through them if they are licensed.

We used Himalayan Glacier out of Katmandu Napel. They were fantastic. They had the permits delivered to us in the city we were traveling from. Took care of me when I was sick. Great driver and guide and they did exactly what we ask.

Actually it is not necessary to go through them, may they are able to book your tickets but it doesn't mean that you must arrange your own trip through their help!

customer is GOD, sure everyone will pay their respect and fulfill the dreams of their clients, they are not the only one, all the travel agent in lhasa will afford this service.

thanking you

Tenzin from Lhasa.

I also used an agent based in Kathmandu who were great. As said on the posts above if everything is on your hand before traveling then selecting an agent is not a big deal. The agent you are thinking about can be a good one. There is no difference either you use Tibet based agent or Chengdu based agent or Kathmandu based agent. Compare the prices and services and just book with one!

Good Luck!

Not a big deal, just go with the cheapest. Chengdu once was but not any more the ruling gateway into Tibet. Nowadays people have much more options like Beijing, Xian, Kunming, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xining.

I think you'd better choose a agency based in Tibet which will help you get Tibet travel permit easily.
