location - 10 days in bali

visiting bali in december for 10 days with my gf.

would like some advice on where to stay (location)

nusa dua sounds to touristy for me (and far from everything) - why travel so far and stay in hotels that have no feeling of bali

kuta sounds like a mad rush with lots of mid star hotels

jimbaran - to far

so heres the question.... 10 days in bali - 7 days Seminyak 3 days ubud?

(dont want to stay in the same location for 10 days - think thats just 2 much - would like to add some variety)

any ideas or suggestions welcome.

many thanks to those who contribute!

If you want a good feeling of Bali, how about venturing to a quiet area in the north.

Both Amed and Pemuteran are lovely. Off the beaten tourist track and with lovely Balinese ambiance.

with 10 days two places is more than enough moving. otherwise you lose a lot of time going between places. seminyak has some nice accommodation and good restautants and shopping. you have a nice beach and being based here you can easily take a look around the area of uluwatu and enjoy the kecak dance there after sunset. a driver could take you here and if you wanted to have the entire day out they could arrange visiting more than just uluwatu, you could take a look around tanjung benoa, dreamland and go to sanur as well.

ubud is a good choice. after the beach of seminyak here you will find it very cultural and beautiful scenery. the areas around ubud are well worth seeing so once again get a driver and explore. if it was me i would have 4 days in ubud and 6 in seminyak. you could visit sanur on the way to ubud also. sanur is a lovely traditional fishing village and a great place to stay.

Seminyak and Ubud would be my choice!!! If you love the beach, then Seminyak is great. Lovely, long white beaches, some of Bali's best restaurants and great shopping. Ubud is actually my favourite. I love the feel there, the culture and the art and there are also some fantastic restaurants and great spas. There's so much to see and do from Ubud as well. You could even break up the trip to 5 days Seminyak, 5 days Ubud, but if you prefer the beach to the inland, then maybe 7-3, or 6-4.

Bali looks forward to seeing you. You are correct, Kuta & Nusa Dua are manic. Travel to the north of Bali to see Real Bali where you can feel the culture and become involved with people.

Try out Lovina & Singaraja, Blai's old capital city.

Check out www.bluebali.co.uk for a good hotel or just arrive, many hotels await you
