Be prepared.........

We have just returned from a lovely long weekend stay in Candidasa made even more prefect by spending time driving the inland raod to Amed and then back along the coast - some of the the most beautiful scenery you will see on the island - a great day out.

In regard to being prepared, I felt I should let anyone travelling to Bali know that getting through Visa and Customs is most likely going to be a long haul. I believe it's a combination of the swine flu paperwork requirements and the sheer volume of travellers entering Bali which have caused the delays. It took us 90 minutes, but we have heard of others taking as long as 3 hours - a bit gruelling after a long flight for many. Good luck getting through quicker.

The last few time when headed into Bali the customs has been shocking swine flu or not. But if your travelling with small children give them a pinch and you will be quickly escorted to the front off the line and throw with no head ache .

At least a there is some cancelation to having a tried bored child on a long trip they can be helpful when dealing with customs in Indo.

SO if you dont have your own befriend one one the plane it may just help you out at the other end

We arrived at 11.45 pm a couple of weeks ago (during swine flu problem time) and we were out and in our drivers car within 25 minutes. Just a matter of luck I think.

We arrived in late May, with the swine flu proceedure and from the time we left the plane to the time we were getting into the taxi was 10 minutes exactly. It is just the luck of the draw and whether there have been delayed flights from other destinations arriving late into Bali.

We had a similar experiene in December - 10 minutes and we were in a cab. This time around there were probably anything upto 6 planes all having arrived within 20 minutes of one another. The line for Customs went way beyond the Visa area, so you had to work your way through to pay the entry Visa and then go back and find the end of the line to go through Customs. It also would help if the Swine flu paperwork could be given on board the plane - there was one desk to write at and all on board our plane trying to fill in the paperwork in that one area.

Our Swine flu paperwork was given out on the plane, so you were unlucky there too. We just had to hand it over as we walked past.

Do you think it depends on the time of day?

What time did you arrive Soo-Darwin?

I think it can depend on the day of the week. If you arrive on the weekend (esp Friday/Sat) if seems to be alot busier. I've been told by a expat living in Bali to always try to arrive on Monday or Tuesday as it's quieter. We arrived on a Wednesday night.

We arrived in mid April 2009 on a Sunday I think from memory, must have had quite a few planes land at the same time as there were hundreds of people trying to get through. We also had a screaming baby, and it took 2 hours to get through. No-one came up to assist us through and the officials all took their time processing their paperwork. Not to mention it was stinking hot and humid in the arrival area.

Once we got through it was clean sailing and a great trip.

Hi FamilyHay,

What time of the day was your flight?

Ours is arriving in Bali at 9pm on Sunday 5th July and the thought of a 2 or 3 hour wait has me thinking VIP VOA!
