Is it my imagination or it everything really expensive?

I have been looking into accommodation in Bali (Seminyak, Ubud and Lombok) and have found that everything sees REALLY expensive. So far small apartments are more expensive than anything that I have booked in Europe, North America or Australia. My budget is $200 AUD a night. Am I looking in the wrong places? We are a small family of three people so the monster villas don't really work for us.

I find accommodation in Bali really reasonable especially compared with Australia. You can stay in a really nice hotel with breakfast for under $80 per night. For your budget of $200 per night you will be able to afford luxury!!! If you give us an idea of where you would like to stay then I am sure we can help you with suggestions for suitable accommodation.

thanks Elizabeth96. That is what i thought!! I haven't visited for 16 years, but we found lots of lovely affordable places back then. We are looking at Seminyak (3), Ubud (3), Pemuteran (2) and Gili Air/Meno (3) or Lombok (3).

Any help would be great!!

Check out private villas. There are some great prices. Look at the top left of Bali Forum page under "vacation Rentals" Many are villas that the owners rent out when they are not there and are usually very good value. Look outside the square. Transport is cheap and easy so getting from place to place no problem,

In Seminyak I would suggest the Royal Beach Seminyak formerly the Sofitel which is right on the beach and gorgeous. You should be able to get a room there for your budget. I would also look at the option of a villa in Seminyak. There are literally hundreds to choose from but you could check out Laksmana Villas and Green Garden villas. In Ubud I can highly recommend Honeymoon Guesthouse where you will definitely be able to stay for way cheaper than $200 per night, in fact you can get two gorgeous rooms for less than $200. The guesthouse and its sister guesthouse Second Honeymoon are located down a quiet lane, but just a five minute walk to the main street. There are magnificent tropical gardens, gorgeous rooms with big bathrooms, a mouth-watering breakfast delivered to your own verandah, pools, massage room etc. Sorry can't help you with accomm. for the other areas.

looking on line doesn't always show all the accomodation and prices. i usually contact hotels direct. this seems to help on most occasions but the problem is knowing who to contact.

the lonely planet guide gives a varitey of hotels, etc and contacts - then checking them onloine will sort out if that's what you want.

in your case, the cheapest option, generally, is a double room with an extra bed.

another option is a family room. some places have them.

this year, we are three and on all bookings we have chosen a double room with extra bed but in one case there were two bedrooms.

another option is interconnecting rooms.

i've attached a bit of info links below that may help you get started on accomodation:

this info on the north of legian which is next to seminyak (not much difference between the two)

This area is compacted with shops, accomdation, temples and traffic.

There are lots of cheaper places to stay but you need to look further than what is in the glossy brochures. There are lots of smaller hotels etc which offer good budget style accommodation. The holiday inn resort on lombok is an affordable option. For gili island accom go to this link and you will see a list of places for each of the gili islands

lombokrooms.com/category/03-gili-islands-hot…

for more affordable accomodation options go to the review section on trip advisor, browse through the reviews, e mail hotels for quotes and also look at the online booking agents who often have very good prices.

Hi Onetwo, Sofitel in Seminyak is definately lovely and central to everything, but there are lots of small villas for under $200.00 per night. Google Bali Villas Seminyak and you should get lots of sites. For Ubud Greenfields is lovely and Alam Shanti, both only $80.00 to $90.00 per night and big enough for three. I'll have to leave Lombok for someone else, but I think there is a Novotel there that looks lovely. Consider the three star options, as a lot of them are really lovely.

We are heading to Bali in 3 sleeps (can you tell I'm getting excited.) We are not staying in any Villa's , there are only 2 of us, but we have 3 nites booked in Ubud at Sawah Sunrise B& B,,Taman Sari, Pemuteran for 3 nites and Manta Dive on gili Air for 3 nites. Depending on when you are going I could let you know how these accom work out when we return in Feb.
