November 6th (Melbourne Cup day).
After picking up our laundry and having breakfast at Mona Lisa again we returned to the hotel to find Made waiting for us to head out on another day trip.
We started by heading out to Tanah Lot. What I didn't expect, being that I hadn't been there before, was the rows and rows of market stalls you have to negotiate before actually getting to the temple. Surprisingly though, the prices seem to be strangely better than in Kuta. You guessed it, Ange found things to buy. She must have first timer stamped on her forehead somewhere. Whilst the temple was busy I believe from all reports it gets a lot busier and Made told us the morning is a much better time to be there if you're not interested in the sunset.
We walked down to the temple and took a heap of photo's and the monks called us over to be blessed. With this done and leaving a small donation it was time to move on to our next destination.
Uluwatu Temple was a completely different experience and well worth the journey. We used one of the guides and while we knew you didn't have to, we gained a bit of knowledge and felt a bit safer around the monkeys.
Once again our celebrity status kicked in with heaps of tourists wanting to have their photo taken with us. Our guide explained that they were from Java and don't see many tourists so we were a novelty to them. Why you would want my ugly mug in your holiday photos still eludes me but each to their own.
Next stop was Pedang Pedang(?) beach or Julia Roberts beach as some call it. What a great little spot. Down the little path, through the rocks brought us to a beautiful beach with a small warung serving food and drinks to wherever you happened to lay your towel. We had a swim and watched the surfers offshore for a while but all good things must come to an end (but not before Ange found something to buy) and it was time to move on.
Last stop (we took our time everywhere so not many stops), Dreamland (SR). The less said about this over commercialised wasteland the better. Suffice to say Made could not stop apologising for taking us there. We told him it wasn't his fault because we asked to go there but you could see he was hurt. Made really does care and asks how you found each place so he can decide if it's a good destination or not. We live and learn.
Back to the hotel and a final goodbye to our new friend.
Time for a swim and a catch up with more new friends about our day then out to dinner at Rattatouille (SR).
We had heard about this Rijstafel and had booked it yesterday (which you have to do). Didn't we feel like pigs as the food just kept coming. We got nowhere near finished and were too stuffed to even get a massage. Hotel, Sleep.
Dropped off some more laundry (where the hell is all this laundry coming from?) and went for a walk along the beach path in the rain. It was bucketing down and we loved every second of it. Locals thought we were mad and kept running out asking if we needed to borrow an umbrella. "No thanks, the rain is too nice"!
No breakfast today as we are both still struggling with last nights dinner so more walking and more shopping was the order of the morning.
Just for something different we dicided on lunch at Mona Lisa. Once again the food was great and we had our now regular table. Ange had been on tripadvisor and decided to book us both in for a facial at Ayu Spa (SR). WHY ME??? I have never had a facial before and I will never have one again! I don't know how you ladies do it! Ange loved it and my skin felt a lot smoother but I still didn't get any better looking for the pain. Ange did some more shopping on the way back (still can't haggle or work out the money). Hotel, swim, talk, drink, shower then out to dinner.
We have been seriously spoiled when it comes to restaurants and tonight was no exception. Possibly the best food we ate for the whole trip (yes, I know that's getting repetitive). All I need to say about 3 Monkeys is in my review but if you are in the area, don't miss this one.
November 8th (last day). AKA Not Happy Day, AKA Surely it's not time to leave day.
Breakfast today was at The Porch (SR) after poolside recommendations. Top choice.
The plan for today was Ange to spend most of the day in Smart Spa in Kuta (she loved this spa the most, good choice me)and do any final shopping she wanted including another suitcase, while I spent 6 hours under a tattoo gun with the Master as he is affectionately know Ibud Nyoman.
After Anges complete overhaul, service and oil change she arrived at Balinesia 2 in time for my last hour of pain. They say "Pain Has No Memory", and I'm already booked in for my next trip.
Taxi back to Griya Santrian to have a last shower and head out to dinner at The Village (SR) before collecting our bags and making the dreaded trip to the airport. NOT HAPPY!!!!
The trip to the airport took over an hour due to chaotic roadworks which made leaving even harder. We spent an hour and a half in the Prada Lounge (the A/C was working this time) and headed home.
I will be back in Bali in March with my son and Ange is very jealous. She is now officially a Bali convert! She is already making plpans for another trip with the whole family and some friends.
Thanks for reading. I hope I didn't put anyone to sleep.
