Hi Mary,

Was that $1600 for flights AND accomodation? If so, you might want to look into a villa on airbnb. They have villas starting from $100 a night, which means you can have around $900 left for flights.

I have been in October before and if it was the rainy season, I didn't find it wet at all (it didn't rain the once we were there and we were there for 10 days).

I'm sorry I can't help with the flights (I'm from Perth and just today booked our flights ($800 return, ouch!). I think we both just missed out on the sales :(

You have nothing to lose by going to a travel agent. In many cases they have access to better deals for accommodation than anyone. They have stay 7 pay 5 in many cases. It is worth a shot.

Hi Marie!

google australian school holidays as each State varies! July/August are peak times, not only because of Australian School holidays, but also it is "peak" season in relation to weather, being considered the driest months of the year.

We have been in September, October to early November and have not found the weather to be unpleasant or raining all the time! It is actually a nice time to visit, imho, as it is not very humid or hot! If there is some rain, often it is in the form of a specatacular thunder and lightening show after sunset or very short lived if in daylight hours!

Travelling outside of any special occasions/school holidays is always less expensive.

Flight Centre advertised flights from Melbourne to Bali for $460 rtn in yesterdays newspaper, not sure of travel dates though. You won't get much cheaper than that.

Greg you must be living in a lucky city. Flight Centre in Brisbane advertised return flights $695 yesterday but only for 1st to 28th February 2014. Not happy Jan - lindiluu
