HNR- Day 12 - Tommys Cafe, Kuta, Legian & the Lady Boys

Woke up fresh & too early again so I sit & enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the roosters crowing & the gorgeous whistles of the many birds here in Bali.

Its funny when your on holidays, you notice the small things. I run around like a mad idiot in Sydney & quite often I forget the small things. I have 5 sporty kids, I manage an office 4 days per week & once a fortnight I clean a little old ladies house. I have no weekends & my weekdays are full. I so needed this break with my family & we have all bonded (& given each other death stares some days) but overall its been a fabulous holiday. My kids work so hard & I think they needed the break too.

Slowly 1 by 1 the kids wake, we shower & off to Kuta we go.

I've used Made again today. He is quick, patient & so lovely. A quiet man but I feel really comfortable with him. I'm sure he thinks we're a strange family. giggle.

He is really cheap too. So with a huge family it helps.

We get dropped off at the door at Tommy's & I'm a little taken back. No ones in there. Should I be worried. Its a small cafe run by a NZ man (wohoo go the kiwi's) that's been living in Bali a long time, He has a leather shop around the corner which has been around for years too.

I'm almost certain I've had a jacket made up 16 years ago...LOL

Anyway we get a table near the fan..its hot in Kuta today... about 29% & its only 9 am.

I have to giggle as the menu has a lot of kiwi slang's...I feel like I'm back home.

We order

2 x American breakfast - scrambled eggs, bacon, toast & jam with coffee or tea.

4 x Pikeltes with butter & jam

1 x Eggs Benedict

5 Ice cold Milo's

2 x Latte

1 x water

290,000 rp

I nearly fall off my chair. I loved the food but hubby wasn't too impressed on the portion size but he's Polynesian. That's all I'll say. I'm full the kids are full..happy little customers here.

I tell hubby to order more food if he wants but hes happy for now.

The iced Milo.....1 word.......YUMMY

We did get a little harassed by some guy trying to sell us DVDs when we were eating.

3 times he came over to our table & 3 times we said we weren't interested.

The staff at Tommy's didn't seem to bothered bout it but it was really getting up hubby's nose.

We finish our meal & decide to walk to the Bali Bombing memorial site.

I came to Bali in 1996.1997 & 1998 & all 3 times I have partied at the Sari Club & Paddies.

It feels quite eerie as you make your way closer to the site.

The old Sari Club is used for a car park & where Paddies use to be is where the memorial site is.

I visited last year to pay my respects & it was pretty overwhelming & kinda confronting.

Seeing all the name on the memorial wall is heartbreaking & immediately the tears begin to fall.

It is a little more emotional for me this year. Over the past year I have made friends with people who have lost family in the bombings so seeing there names breaks my heart.

The kids are sad for me when they see my tears & they bow their heads for a moment to pay their respects too. We stand there for a moment & we are all quiet. Kids are not complaining & I think they understand. We take a few photos & when I look back at them later, we all look sad. Not one of us is smiling. Its a touching moment in Bali for us.

We decide to take the kids back to the villa as its a hot one today.

We ring Made to collect us on Melasti & Legian Street.

And start making our way there.

I have to giggle at some stall owners cos they are desperate to sell hubby Viagra!!!!!

After about 50 of them asking hubby & the numerous laughs coming from me he gets a little annoyed.

"bro I don't need Viagra I have 5 kids" I turn around to look at hubby & the stall owners are giving him hi fives, massaging his shoulders, shaking his hand & hugging him.

Calling him a stallion & god knows what else.

I get on the defense & yell back.........

"Boys he did the easy work...I'm the one who is the stallion"

The roar off laughter from the boys on the street!!!

Bad bloody move that was cos next minute I'm surrounded by the men & they start to give me hi fives & start rubbing my shoulders. hahahahahaha I love Bali.

Made picks us up & we head back to the Villa.

Hubby & I have been invited to our friends birthday party at Sarong.

My Bali BFF is from Newcastle originally but has been living in Bali since she was a child.

Her mum is married to a high government official & we are treated like royalty when we are with them. They are the kindest, loveliest most humble family & its nice to see that "titles & money" do not change them. The children are beautiful & well mannered & I am touched by the love & generosity they have shown to us.

We have been invited back to their house the next day for a dinner party.

Not sure who's more excited..Hubby, the kids or me!!!!

After a beautiful dinner at Sarong us young one's (LOL remember I'm 21 tonight)

decide to hit Kuta.

But not until we decide to hit the Gay Bar & Lady Boy show in Seminyak.

From the moment I arrive I am stunned & so so excited

The lady boys are up on stage & entertaining the mass crowds. They are gorgeous & they give some of us woman a run for our money.

I think I am at the Mardi Gras in Sydney.

Hubby looks horrified & my mate & I cannot help but crack up at his facials. My mates hubby is pissing himself too. Now my hubby is a big island boy & so so straight. he loves his beer & footy. what man doesn't...hahahahaha

But he is mortified. he stands with his back to the wall the whole time we are there..hahahahaha

A waiter comes up & we order 4 bintangs & the waiter does something to hubby & I die off laughter. He grabs onto hubby's shoulder & does a mini dance for him.

OMG I thought my hubby was going to throw him out the door. Politely but assertively he responds "bro don't do that again otherwise I'll blah blah blah" The waiter gives me a high 5 & runs away to get our drinks.

This was the HIGHLIGHT of my trip. I cannot stop laughing & hubby is giving me death stares.

We decide to go outside as NOW the stripper boys are on the bar dancing in tiny little hot pants.

A little too much for Hubby but I'm impressed.

But then the stripper gets completely naked. Holy Heck. My head is turned to the side..I don't know why but it is. I completely loose it & by now the stomach muscles are sore.

I go outside & another gay boy is chatting to hubby.

I'm more interested in the lady boy show so I watch from outside.

Hubby looks OK & then he signals for me to come back hahahahahaha

He introduces me to the Gay boy & he is lovely.

He said "you have nice husband & he is very honest. He tells me that I can talk to him as a friend but nothing else" You are a darling my love & we decided that's enough for hubby to last him a life time.

Off to the Engine Room again & we stay till 5 am.

Hubby & I have been having lovely dates together & we think we are 21 again.

No cage or stage dancing tonight but its still a great night.

The bouncers love hubby & the boss offer's him a job.

Hubby happily declines but the boss gives hubby his no & says "anytime you want a job call me"

I am so tempted to give up my life in Sydney but realistically I know its not possible.

Hubby is hungry so I make the taksi driver pull over & I run into Circle K.

Not a lot of options so I get

A packet of cheese balls, peanuts, 2 donuts, tin of tuna & a loaf of bread. hahahahaha

we eat the peanuts & cheese balls & throw the rest in the fridge.

I stagger to bed & not sure how I managed to land in the right place.

before you know it...I'm dreaming again.

Good Night my Bali Lovers

Fantastic night you had ! Those shows are great. A friend of mine ended up on the bar in a shower in his undies ! He's a beer and footy guy too. Great reading . Look forward to the next instalment. Don't know how you gave up that opportunity of employment . Must have been hard...:)

I can't wait to see the memorial. It must be a hard place to visit. My heart goes out to the families of lost ones there.

Lis, you had me on the floor with the gay guy and your hubby. My hubby got a similar reaction in Thailand, so you bought back some funny memories for me. I don't know your hubby, but I could have just imagine this Polynesian guy feeling and looking very awkward...lol.. Some of those damn lady boys are bloody gorgeous.

Thanks again fo a great report. X
