How long is the visa on arrival line in Jakarta?

We are planning our first visit to Indonesia (Raja Ampat) and Myanmar at the end of this year and are trying to figure out the visas. How long is the visa line once arriving to Jakarta? Should we consider getting the visa in advance (we live in the Washington DC suburbs) to save time and aggravation?

It depends how many planes arrive at the same time.. It could be from 1 minute to 15 minutes.. won't usually take much longer than that unless there is a sudden upsurge of passengers.. You don't have to get a visa in advance unless you stay for more than 30 days..

Cheers

lacontessa1,

This forum is a great place to collect valuable information to plan your stay in the JKT City. You will meet people from different places - locals and visitors from different countries - all willing to share with you their knowledge and experience of this destination.

Note these contributors are volunteering to spend some of their time to provide hints, tips and advices so you can enjoy your stay. Please feel free to squeeze a small "Hello" and "Thanks" in your questions; this would be greatly appreciated and won't take you much of your time.

It's relatively an easy procedure and these days the line move quickly. However, please be aware that the visa you're applying on arrival is only for 30-day social visit and single entry visa. Should you require different type of visa (e.g. multiple entry or long stay), you should get one in advance from Indonesian embassy or consulate.

Since we are only visiting Jakarta and Raja Ampat, think we would only need a 30 day social visit/single entry visa. Thanks again.

Jakarta is pretty well set up - it takes very little time to pay for the VOA - you will have your $25 USD - no drama for you changing your local currency to USD as thats your local currency.

I find that by the time you do that - go thru Immigration you still have a little wait for your bags to come off

Waiting for checked bags is one thing that is an issue - if you are flying economy. One could wait on average 40mins just to get your bags from a narrowbody jet such as A320 or 737, it could take longer for wide-body jets.

But since you're flying business, make sure the bags have priority tags and they will come out as soon as you exit VOA and immigration counters.
