National Parks

I am thinking of doing 14 days in Japan, which will most likely involve going from Tokyo to Osaka and Kyoto. However would also like to visit somewhere with some natural beauty, away from the urban bustle, so can anyone recommend a good national park to visit for a night or so, or maybe just a beautiful area (doesn't have to be a national park) which is not to far from the Tokyo to Osaka route.

The immediate destination that comes to mind is Kamikochi: http://www.kamikochi.or.jp/english/index.php

It's not exactly en-route from Tokyo to Osaka. A suggested route is to go to Matsumoto from Tokyo. From Matsumoto to Kamikochi, then Takayama, then Shirakawa-go, then Kanazawa and finally Kyoto and Osaka. But do note that access to Kamikochi is closed mid Nov. to late April.

As William512 pointed out, Kamikochi is a beautiful place to visit. When are you planning to visit Japan? If your trip is during Kamikochi’s off-season, or if Kamikochi is too far, you may visit Nikko, Hakone (or Fuji Five Lakes) and/or Okutama.

Re Nikko (Nikko National Park), please see

Re Hakone (Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park), please see

During the busy traveling seasons or long weekends, Hakone may get very crowded. Then, you may visit Fuji Five Lakes (i.e. Lake Kawaguchi), instead of Hakone. Please see

Though it is not as popular as Nikko/Hakone, Okutama (Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park) is also a nice place to visit. Please see

You can take a day trip to Nikko, Fuji Five Lakes or Okutama. You can take a day trip to Hakone as well, or can spend a night in Hakone while you are traveling from Tokyo to Osaka.
