KIX to Kyoto

We will be arriving into Osaka at approx 7pm. As we intend on arrival going straight to Kyoto the better half is wanting to do this hassle free and would like to go by limousine bus direct to our hotel (Monterey Hotel Kyoto) - I am thinking this is rather costly as we could on arrival at Kansai activate a 7 day rail pass which could get us from Kansai to Kyoto on the night of arrival - day trip to Hiroshima/ferry Miyajima - then travel to Takayama on our seventh day. (plus perhaps pick up on some small trips in between whilst in Kyoto) Could the experienced advise whether on arrival at Kansai it is difficult to activate the JR pass (where) catch the JR train to Kyoto station and then catch a taxi to the Monterey Hotel. Advice much appreciated.

Where are you going after Takayama? On your 8th day, if you have to go beyond Takayama, then the trip is usually worth more than KIX-Kyoto ride.

Hi Sammyfloyd. We have two nights Takayama followed by a night in Hirayunomori so I figured to get the best value from the pass we would need to activate on arrival.

You're correct. If you activate your pass on arrival, you'd get the best value. There is a ticket office at JR KIX station. Take the Haruka Express to Kyoto Station and take a taxi to the Monterey, which costs ~1,300 yen.

To speed up the exchange process, download forms and fill them in advance:

There is no airport limo bus that goes to your hotel. If you want a door to door service, go with MK Skygateshuttle:
