group of 3, train/bus or taxi

We are a group of 3 , will have a week in Japan in early August. We plan to have 3 nights in Kyoto and 3 in Tokyo (flying in to KIX and out from Narita)

Q1:How much a taxi drive wouls cost from KIX to Kyoto ?, should we buy 3x 1-day JR West Pass total 6000Y or should we take a taxi (if it would cost similar)?

Same sort of question in general for travelling in group of 3, tax or train/bus ?

Q2: We will be staying at Guest House San Rich Kyoto Station

A 10-minute walk from JR Kyoto Train Station. And in Tokyo , at Weekly Mansion Higashi-Ueno. We booked them based on budget and reasonably close to transport. Any comments/concerns about these places ? We can still cancel and rebook if it was a mistake.

Q3: From KIX should we stay around visiting Osaka then take train to Kyoto at night, or take train straight to Kyoto then go back to Osaka ?

4 must -visite places for us in Kyoto/osaka are Nara, Anashiyama, Gion and Dotonbori. May be Fushimi Inari. In what order should we do them ? (We arrive KIX at 9am and have 3 nights in Kyoto no night in osaka).

Q4: the train trip from Kyoto to Tokyo is it scenic ? If tt is a nice trip then we will do it during the day if not we may try an over night train. Any advice ?

Thanks very much

KIX to Kyoto on normal taxi would end up with astronomical figures. Consider the Yasaka taxi fixed price transfer, if you have to. The best way (probably) is JR West 1 day pass for Haruka Ltd Exp. Take the train straight to JR Kyoto Station.

There are currently no overnight trains from Kyoto to Tokyo. Take the Shinkansen Nozomi service. See hyperdia for timetables and fare.

I won't call it scenic, but it is much more relaxing than a night bus travel or domestic flight.

An evening in Dotonbori after your Nara day visit is recommended (triangular travel Kyoto-Nara-Osaka-Kyoto).

Fushimi Inari can be visited early in the morning or even late at night, if you are only going for the torii gates. Gion is better visited in early evening.

There is no certain order, but it's better to keep your Kyoto itinerary for the day in a specific area (Higashiyama walk: Kiyomizu-Nanzenji-Ginkakuji and Gion, Fushimi Inari; Western Kyoto: Kinkakuji, Nijo Castle, Arashiyama)

Weekly Mansion is not a bad choice if you want to keep your budget low. I don't know about the Guest House Sun Rich- so I can't comment on that.

Ueno is not the most fancy place in Tokyo, but it's generally a cozy, cheap, a bit dusty-rusty, retro, easy-to-get-anywhere area.

Perhaps you might compare the price with a 3-person room of a budget hotel chain, like Superhotel or Toyoko Inn, or hotels around Kyoto Station.
