Is Japan Rail Pass economical for 1-way Tokyo-Kyoto-osaka?

I saw a number of messages on Japan Rail Pass. But, I did not get the answer for this question.

I am sorry if I missed it and this is a "repeat" question.

I will be travelling with my 11-year daughter for 1 week from Tokyo-Kyoto-Hiroshima-Osaka.

I am not going back to Tokyo. Instead, I am leaving from Osaka.

So, does it still make sense for me to buy the one week Japan Rail Pass?

Or, am I better off buying individual tickets?

thanks.

Yes in your case, you should get the JR Pass as the pass also allows you to ride on the JR local trains, so definitely will pass off

Thank you for the replies.

I looked at the Hyperdia web site. In that, one way ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto is coming to only $80.

Since I am not going back to Tokyo (and instead leaving from Osaka), I am wondering if it makes sense for me to buy the JR pass or not.

However, I will be spending full 7 days in Japan. And, the tentative itinerary is:

Day 1 in Tokyo

Day 2 : Mount Fuji (Hakone)

Day 3: Hakone to Kyoto

Day4,5,6 - Day trips in and around Kyoto

Day 7: Day trip to Hiroshima and back to Osaka to catch a flight.

So, I will be taking a lot of these day trips. Will the JR Pass cover most of them as well?

And hence, it makes sense to buy it?

Thank you.

one way ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto is not only $80. You can not avoid to pay "seat fee".

You should make Hiroshima day trip on one of Day 4 5 6. Not on the final day. If your flight is in the evening, you can get around in Kyoto and catch the direct train to KIX from there. Your hotel will keep your luggage even after checkout.

Thank you for the suggestion on Hiroshima. I will do that.

Back to the original question -

So, does that mean that even in my case (with only ONE long distance journey from Hakone to Kyoto AND NO RETURN journey to Tokyo, and several day trips in Tokyo and Kyoto) - does it make sense to buy the JR pass?

I am also traveling with my daughter (who will not yet be 12 in June and hence half price for JR pass)

thanks
