Do cherry blossom bloom get pushed back with current snow

Hihi

Would like to inquire would the unusual current heavy snow in Tokyo push back cherry blossom bloom periods?

Am planning a trip in late mar. After reading japan guide I decided to push it back to early April instead. However there has been heavy snow fall in the past week or more. Do these affect cherry blossom bloom periods?

Thanks!

You can check the below site. It is in Japanese but it is easy to see how cherry blossom is expected in each region.

Snow should not retard cherry blossoms at all. The only way cold affects them is if you have a hard frost just while they are budding.

In Toronto Canada there are flowering cherry blossoms given as a gift from Japan. They bloom every year not matter how much snow Toronto gets. Same with Washington DC...lots of flowering cherries there and they get snow every winter.

The determining factor as to the date the bloom is based more on the warmth that comes in spring..

Saw some Atami Sakura in bloom just this weekend, in where else, Atami.

They are a very early blooming variety, but it was still nice to see some of them in bloom in protected areas.
