What JR Pass do I buy?

Hello~

I am having trouble determining which JR passes to buy for my trip to Japan from June 7-24th.

Land in at the Narita Airport:

June 7-8th: Tokyo - Asakusa

June 9th: Hakone for a ryokan and onsen experience

June 10-11th: My Fuji Area - Fujikawaguchiko

June 12-13th: Kyoto - Shimogyo-ku

June 14-15th: Osaka

June 16-24th: Back to Tokyo and fly out of Narita

I don't know if I should be planning buses or using the train. Also, what is the best way to get from Narita Airport to Asakusa, Tokyo.

I would really love the help. Thank you. :)

Get a 7-day JR Pass. Activate the Pass on June 10 so it lasts until June 16. You might also find the Fuji Hakone Pass useful if you are overnighting at Hakone and the Kawaguchiko.

It makes more sense to flip the order of your Kawaguchiko and Hakone visit. Hakone is very close to Odawara station. Odawara is a Shinkansen stop enroute to Kyoto so you will end up spending less transport time on June 10.

There are two best ways to get to Asakusa from Narita Airport:

a) Keisei Skyliner (airport access dedicated train, with seats reserved and space to put luggage) to Keisei Ueno then taxi. keisei.co.jp/keisei/…ae_outline

b) SkyAccess Limited Express (commuter train sets, no seats reserved, but fast enough, direct, and cheap).

I recommend you to follow his advice.

Kyoto looks a bit short for 2 days; Osaka seems a bit long for two days. Nara (Todaiji in City Center and Horyuji in Ikarugacho if you have time) seems to be missing from your itinerary- if you haven't visited it yet, I do recommend spending a day there, from Kyoto or Osaka.

How much time would I be saving? I would have to cancel both of my ryokan and hostel bookings.

2 days is not too long for Osaka at all. There's loads to see and do.

Assuming your question was directed at my suggestion to reverse the order of Kawaguchiko and Hakone, you will save roughly 2 hours.

So I switch the days around for Hakone and the area around Mt. Fuji. Does anyone know how good the Hakone discount pass is/ if I do buy it: what things should I use on it to get the most bang for my buck? I definitely want to go to Fuji-Q.

I feel two days will be great fro Osaka:

~Dotomburi + Glico-Man

~Video Game Space Station Bar

~booked a concert at Live&Bar11

~Osaka Castle gardens (was told it wasn't worth it going inside the Castle)

~Eat lots of Takoyaki

~World Club - I hear is a great club

~Umeda Sky Garden

~Hep Five Shopping Complex

~Pokemon Center in Kita-Osaka

~Mino Falls is a pretty hike
