PAL new IT system by October 27, 2012

Email I received from PAL.

Philippine Airlines is embarking on a comprehensive System transformation program intended to significantly improve customer service in line with the company’s growth strategy.

This airline systems upgrade – called the PAL Simplified Solutions (PSS) project, is a multi-million dollar IT infrastructure initiative that will result to faster and more convenient booking, ticketing, and airport check-in.

The move to the new system is set for October 27, 2012. On this day, a 24-hour transition period will be observed to ensure seamless data migration and systems calibration. During this period, only inquiries on existing bookings, schedules and seat availability can be handled. It will not be possible to make new bookings or change existing bookings, including redemption bookings or upgrades for Mabuhay Miles.

Passengers flying on October 27, 2012 and subsequent days are advised to bring with them a print-out of their electronic tickets and arrive at the airport earlier than usual.

how will this impact the day to day operations once implemented. Will travelers see those automated check in machines as an example?.

Also this:

"During the upgrade, our Member Services Specialists will also not have access to reservations, ticketing or online services."

Based on their information, new booking and ticketing is not available during the 24 hours of the Oct 27 switch.

Hopefully, someone who is travelling on Oct 27 can share their 1st hand experience on this upgrade.

update from PAL

We are pleased to inform you that we will soon be upgrading our passenger services system to serve you better. As we transition, flights will be normal but reservations and ticketing will not be available for at least 14 hours, from 0330H to 1740H, on October 27. Only inquiries on existing bookings, schedules and seat availability may be handled. For your convenience, please bring a printed copy of your eTicket and check in earlier than usual.

Yes, PAL will be upgrading its Passenger Service System and will be migrating its booking and ticketing to the Sabre ticketing system. This is also in preparation for its membership to the OneWorld Alliance.

Looking forwards for more announcements as the launch of Project Winter nears. After announcing flights to Toronto and the resumption of flights to the Middle East, flights to Frankfurt is not too far behind.

bryantpark88, how can PAL (airline code PR) commence flights to Frankfurt if the European Union has not given PR the all clear in terms of its offciial status as a 'safe' airline?

I agree with kegler747. Star Alliance is a far better gruping than either SkyTeam or OneWorld. the latter has Australia's terrible legacy airline, QANTAS, as a member. That says it all!

@Vlad...I guess PAL's quite confident that they'll be getting a partial exemption from the EU similar to what was given to Garuda. PAL is hopeful that the three largest European economies namely Germany, UK and France would support PAL's bid for exemption. During a very recent visit to the country last week, the French Prime Minister attended the contract signing for PAL's $7B purchase from Airbus and mentioned their support for PAL's return to Europe. PAL likewise chose UK's Rolls Royce for the engines of the A330's and signed a deal with Lufthansa Teknik for maintenance. After Frankfurt, it's London and Paris next.

I'm not really sure about their decision to join OneWorld. All I know that PAL's membership is being sponsored by Cathay Pacific. Moreover, this will again allow PAL to connect with American Airlines for US domestic flights. I remember PAL having an interline agreement with AA back in the 80's and 90's. I'd always be connecting to an AA flight from LAX or SFO onwards to the east coast whenever I take PAL.
