Is the Philippines the next backpacker haven?

These backpackers get it--travelling all over the islands--boracay, dumaguete, caramoan etc. not dangerous at all. the people were incredibly friendly and fantastic...

I think there is a growing number of budget travellers to the Philippines, however those on a real budget and want the best bang for the buck will still gravitate towards Thailand and India IMHO

Having to take so many planes and ferries is a turn off for some.

Backtracking to Manila is a question that always pop-up. Seasonal airline schedule. Very expensive flight such as Elnido & Batanes. Natural disasters, crime, taxi drivers. Poor NAIairport facilities. Lack of transparent drive to make the travel more fun (except for video hype)

It's far from being a backpacker's haven.

I just realized how much of a deterrent being an archipelago is, specially when you factor in how bad/inconvenient/expensive the domestic transport infrastructure is. Plus we are far from other countries unlike Thailand where you can visit nearby countries.

there are backpackers everywhere, there is nothing that will draw them to the Philippines more than other places such as Thailand or Indonesia.

Backbackers love hostels which are not that many and popular in tourist destinations including the big cities of Manila and Cebu.

To me, an efficient transport system between islands must be there to shorten traveling time be it ferry or bus.

Philippines consists of so many islands that we need a combination of land, air and sea transport to serve different needs and types of tourist.

3000+ islands?

What happen to the rest of the 4000+ islands?
