where to stay

We are thinking of having a holiday in the Philippines but have no idea where the best part to go. We would like to be near a beach but also have do some sight seeing. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children 9 & 11.

You can start by reading the Top Questions------>

Lots of good information packed there.

So many great places to visit but one of the most popular is Boracay. It really depends if you want touristy non touristy your budget your interests etc.

Have a read first of the FAQs and try to narrow down to your favourites where we can help further.

I would suggest the province of Bohol as there are white sand beaches, old Spanish-built churches, tarsier sanctuary and of course the famous Chocolate Hills.

As Keg suggested, Bohol-Negros (Dumaguete-Dauin-Apo Island)-Cebu (Malapascua-Bantayan) would be a good start.

Easy to get around.

Another vote for Bohol. It has lots of things to keep children busy and is a large enough island that you will not get bored

The best natural spots in the Archipelago would be in the region of Visayas. You can go hop from one Island to another through ferries. I would suggest these spots:

* El Nido in Palawan (it's in Luzon but very accessible to the Visayan group)

*Bohol (Panglao Island, Alona Beach, Tarsiers, Chocolate Hills, Loboc River, old churches, etc.)

*Cebu (Cebu City, Malapascua, Bantayan)

*Boracay Islands (lots of things to do!)

My vote goes to either Bohol or Boracay.

I second Kegler's suggestion - Bohol seems like the kind of place you would like.

It has beaches, snorkelling, hiking trails, forests, hills, river cruise with local singers, nature, a cute ET look alike primate called the tarsier all in one place. And of course, there are places like the bee farm which will excite kids no end. A few old creaky churches too if you like a bit of history.
