7-10 day flexible adventure

I have been searching for days now and still can't narrow down a good location. To start off with, me and another male friend (26 and 30 single) are looking to spend 7-10 days in the Philippines with a fairly open budget. We will be coming from Singapore Jan or Feb 2015 so ideally I was thinking a NS flight to a larger city would be nice and we could set up "camp" in or around said city. We like smaller bars/cocktail bars and mixing with locals/girls and non touristy areas. We would also like to spend some days in the rural areas Forrests/jungles and on boats/beaches for some days as well. Is there a larger city with an airport, not too far from rural areas with nice beaches/islands/jungles.

There are plenty of airports relatively close to beaches, islands and forests.

The Visayas (central islands) and the majority of Mindanao that is safe for Westerners are you best bets.

Why not go to a smaller, very untouristy place such as Dapitan and Dipolog? Travel by ferry (2 Go Travel) from Manila one way and fly back on Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific the other. Book online at these individual operators' websites. It is best to have 'verified by Visa' or the equivalent Mastercard extra security step program so that your credit card passes the hoops of using an overseas based website for payments.

Aliguay Island lacks commercial accommodation, but look it up on TA: an hour by banca (boat) from Dakak Park Beach resort, Dapitan.

Beaches near Glan (fly to General Santos City) are isolated and wonderful. If too quiet for you, try Moalboal on Cebu Island, Siquijor Island, Bantayan Island or Malapascua Island. All have some tourists but are not crowded the way that Boracay is.

Beaches offshore from both Coron town and Concepcion, Busuanga Island are also terrific. Again, 2 Go Travel runs a ferry from Manila once a week (which continues on or comes back from Puerto Princesa) while there are daily flights with the above two airlines. This part of Palawan is not as busy tourist wise as PP or apparently El Nido so enjoy the snorkelling. Some say Coron isn't much of a town but I find it fine. Corto del Mar is a good hotel.

If only staying for seven to 10 days, pick one place only and visit it: spend your last night in Manila prior to flying out. www.asiatravel.com has a good range of Metro Manila hotels: Makati, Ermita or Malate are reasonable options relatively close to NAIA Airport.

Would staying in Makati for 7-10 days with a 2-3 day trip to aniloa be a good idea. As in would there be enough to see and do? Also is there any other places (beach/island wise) within 2-3 hours of manila? I'm trying to stay close to manila because it seems to be the only place to get a NS from Singapore.

I have not been to Anilao but it receives reasonable to good reports on TA. However as stated above my tip is to journey to Visayas or the safe parts of Mindanao.

However you can fly to more Filipino destinations from Singapore than just Manila NAIA.

For example, Tigerair flies nonstop from Singapore to Kalibo, while Cebu Pacific flies to Iloilo on the island of Panay (twice weekly) and to Clark, 80 kilometres from Metro Manila on Luzon Island (daily), plus to Cebu better than daily ex Singapore along with the usual flights to Manila NAIA.

Singapore Airlines' subsidiary SilkAir also flies from Singapore to Davao on Mindanao (which has Samal island with snorkelling) and to Mactan Airport, Cebu. These SilkAir flights are typically triangular so you may have to stop in either cebu or Davao on the way to the other.

Puerto Galera??

Travel time is around three hours from Manila.

Island hopping, numerous beaches, and carabao rides into the jungle are just some of the attractions here.

Malapascua, Bantayan Islands (both north of Cebu City: catch a bus from north bus terminal) are excellent while Moalboal (2.5 hours from Cebu City via south bus terminal) is also good.

Dalaguete and environs may be underrated: not much visisted by foreigners.

Coron might also be another idea.

Laidback rural town with lots of places to see not to mention excellent dive sites. You can fly to coron from Manila.
