Girls Trip - Culture, Beach, and Adventure - On a budget!

Hi! I am traveling to the Philippines for about 2 weeks with my 3 girlfriends. We are 26 years old and looking for a little bit of everything, but most importantly want to stay on a budget! We are thinking volcanoes, hiking, beach, and partying.

I also want to point out that we will be visiting during the Ati-Atihan festival, and want to partake in all the fun. I scuba dive (although the others don't) so would like to do some diving as well.

Below is my preliminary itinerary - please let me know what you think!

11-Jan Depart Thailand for Manila

12-Jan Manila - see city, go to Divisoria market, do a tour

13-Jan Day trip to Tagaytay

14-Jan Depart Manila to Borocay - $68 flight

15-Jan Boracay

16-Jan Boracay

17-Jan Drive to Kalibo

18-Jan Kalibo - Ati-Atihan Festival final day

19-Jan Depart Kalibo to Cebu - $21 flight

20-Jan Cebu - Diving

21-Jan Ferry ride to Bohol - Chocolate Mountains

22-Jan Cebu

23-Jan Cebu to Manila - $29 flight

We figured flying would be easiest but I just cannot believe how cheap it is ($21 flight?!) - are these safe flights? Is their a suitcase weight limit?

Thanks in advance!

your itinerary looks fine.

what airline are those flights?

Usually cheap flights like that don't include check in luggage, so that will most likely be extra.

check with the air line regarding the max weight.

have fun

Thanks for the reply!

The airlines vary - AirAsia Zest, Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines

Im pretty sure none of those airlines offer free check in baggage. The weight will also vary depending on the airline.

Check with each airline.

Where will you be diving in Cebu? Just curious.

As for Divisoria, just be careful with your valuables and belongings. It has many pickpockets there.

20-Jan Cebu - Diving

21-Jan Ferry ride to Bohol - Chocolate Mountains

22-Jan Cebu

23-Jan Cebu to Manila - $29 flight

#######################################

Just get the first fast ferry available after landing at Mactan Cebu. Head straight to Alona Beach on Panglao island Bohol. The diving is supposed to be some of the best in the world. Your friends can go whale and dolphin watching while you dive. Then you fly back to Manila from Tagbilaran Bohol.

Some other things that may interest you while on Bohol

Bohol, including Panglao island has

- White sand beaches

- Diving/snorkelling

- the Chocolate Hills

- whale and dolphin watching

- tarsier sanctuaries

- butterfly sanctuaries

- wild life sanctuaries

- fire fly tours

- adventure tours including zip lining

- historical sites dating back to 1565

- several waterfalls

- swimming underground in the Hinagdanan cave

- lunch tours on the Loboc river

- hanging bamboo bridges over the Loboc river

- the Bohol Bee Farm where you can see mats, clothes and knick knacks being made then eat a meal with edible flowers and honey.

- rice paddies which means there is a high chance of seeing a Carabao in action

@ Kathleen

1) None of these places have anything cultural (save for perhaps the Ati - Atihan festival which some may call remotely cultural) - else they do have the right ammount of the other things you are looking for - beaches... fun....

2) History in Phils tends to be fairly recent - most buildings have been made int eh last less than 300 years.

3) Beaches - Philippines is filled with them - you are covering some of the nice ones. Boracay and Bohol will make you happy - they have the right amount of activity. And I don't think you are lookign for peaceful beaches - right?

4) Diving - Bohol is a better place for this than Cebu - there are far more dive shops along Alona beach to choose from. You can do a intro dive. Nice coral, beautiful fish

5) The people above have rightly told you of the nicer places to see in Bohol. Not sure if you are interested, but if it is culture you are interested in, you may like to visit to the Santo Nino church / see Magellan's cross at Cebu. It is interesting, and is representative of Filipino culture for the past 400 years.

Your itinerary is fine, diving in Cebu? I think the closest is in Moalboal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a whole bunch of dive shops on Mactan Island (the location of the international airport) who will take you diving from there

Agree with Jim.

The nearest dive spot is actually Mactan from Cebu city.

However Malapascua and Moalboal are the better places.
