Short stay at Manila Airport

En route to Australia we have a 7 hour day stop over at Manila Airport and on return an overnight stay at Manila Airport.

It it possible, safe and worthwhile to vistiy the city during either of these stops.

many thanks

If you have to switch terminals, this takes longer.

Irrespective, tell the immigration officer that you are transiting. You will then be exempt from the P550 international departure tax. Insist on this when you return to the airport. Carry your previous boarding pass and forward flight itinerary with you at all times.

Seven hours turns into about four and a half given the possibility that your incoming plane may be a bit late and that you need to be back at the airport 90 minutes prior (while allowing for road traffic holdups).

You could either visit Resorts World Manila (a casino but with a few shops and many restaurants attached) opposite Terminal 3 NAIA, Andrews Avenue) or Pasay City's Mall of Asia (a huge shopping centre) in that time. You might get two and a half or three hours at the latter but make sure that the queues for taxis back to the airport ex Mall of Asia are not long as in busy times, they can be. Look both attractions up on TA.

If staying overnight, www.asiatravel.com has some excellent mystery hotel 'Crazy Rates' in Metro Manila. Stay in either Ermita/ Malate (Manila Bay) or Makati to be relatively close to the airport.

Both these destinations are very safe as is the vast majority of Metro Manila. Taxi fares are very cheap.

I would not even bother for the layover as too many things can go wrong and its such a short amount of time. For the overnight, for sure jump into Makati as one possibility and there are many hotels You can eat drink and party to your delight or just see a movie and walk around. OR, get into the Ermita Malate area and see the Intramuros.

I tend to agree with LO2.

If its 7 hrs between flights in reality after disembarking, collecting luggage, immigration etc to being at the airport 2 hrs prior, in reality you probably only have about 4 hrs max. You then need to travel back in forth and in peak hours may experience traffic congestion.

Resorts World is probably the safest close by option or do an overnighter.

Which terminal or terminals in Manila will you be using and are the flights with the same airline?

7 hours? I agree with the above - not worth checking out, and then in.

You won't have much time left to explore the city - it has sufficient traffic jams for you not to be able to plan a trip to the city with such precision. The only place you may be able to visit is resorts world opposite to the airport - and you don't want to go to Resorts world for just 1-2 hours - right?
