What is a cheap accomodation these days?

I’ve been to Boracay two times. The first visit I paid $25 a day in a not beach front property.

Now, I’m checking rates for February and can not find anything less than $50.

What is the situation with the budget accommodation on the island these days?

Any property advice?

Thank you

Zion,

read the recent lodging inn and pension house post on the forum today

..it lists several inexpensive places to stay

..remember often the statement"you get what you pay for has an element of truth" associated with it

...hope you have a great day

I learned a little, searching for a room in Boracay recently for my upcoming trip in 3 weeks to the beautiful Philippines.

Last time I was in Boracay, August, 2003 I paid $18 (1000 pesos) for a beachfront hotel, Mona Lisa, which has since burned down. A similar place now is about $90 , with tax and service.

There are some places which come up under 50 on Agoda.com, Boracay Courtyard and Turtle Inn.

Dave's Straw hat if you can get a room is under 50.

I think there are some lower priced guesthouses like Taj.

Villa Camilla and Frendz have lower prices too.

If you go off-season you'll save half, I think.

Travel agents do not list the lowest priced accommodation. If you have a look around when you arrive you can find much cheaper rooms.

My first trip to Boracay was 4 years ago in November, right at the end of low season; therefore I could find a place for $25. My second visit was in December and I had to pay about $40 for the same place.

Zion,

Sirenna is correct, there are a lot more lodgings then what comes up on tripadvisor and other big web sites. Some may not be on the web at all.

This website has some lesser known (and some well known lodgings):

Re: The link in the prior post.

If that's a little hard to navigate, try this one:

Sirenna and everyone else, what do you think of these places?

we tried to book a fan room at Daves Straw Hut, rate was P1900 but impossible to get a reservation. They sent us to Arwana, with a standard room for P2000..beach front so a good deal. We booked with them and several other hotels including Blue Mango. Ocean breeze is around P1200, 68 is about same price, both off beach. There are other places near daves on that path that cost around P1500. Orchids has fan rooms during off season for P500 and rates on season are not too shabby either. Isla Bonita has rooms in back for P1200, fan rooms.

Jerseycity are you asking just for the sake of asking as in your earlier post you said you booked the Soleil de Boracay. Have you changed your mind. Next on that website for backpackers, those are the lowest rates in the lowest time of year that each hotel offers I imagine.

If you want really cheap - then do not book over web site or travel agent. Come here, take a room for one night and then canvass. What is advertized for 50% you can have for 25% or even cheaper, but you have to show up and haggle.
