Lobster......

I never had lobster in Philippines,I've seen videos of ocean's bounty specially spiny lobsters on display around different restaurants in Boracay...

Just curious is it very expensive?a 1.5 kilo here cost approx.$30....any buffet serves lobster?

The dinner buffet at Shangri-la Boracay served lobster when I was there but I don't think they serve it every night so it is best to call first if you are interested to dine there.

As a rule, no there is usually not lobster served as part of a buffet, though one or two of the flashier hotels may offer it. It's expensive! You can see it on display at various beachside buffets but it's dead, on ice, and there's no telling how long it's been sitting there. Try to find live lobster if you can. The cheapest way to enjoy a lobster dinner is to buy one in the market and take it to Smoke or one of the other local restaurants and have them cook it for you. I'll find out up-to-date prices for you.

rasecollidab, forget lobster on Boracay, its useless to even try it. If your from Vegas, your probably used to cold water lobsters or those from New England in your country. The local lobster on Boracay su@ks. Dont waste your time. Shangrila, if they do have lobster, I bet they are not local and in any case, what you will pay there will exceed what a nice casino in your back yard will charge.

I would say that lobsters in the Philippines are not as good tasting as compared to its counterparts in China, Vietnam or even in the U.S.

They are not great but definitely they are good enough to satisfy your lobster cravings.

Thanks!....

I'm sick of buffet,being from the buffet capital of the world I had my share of mediocre to spectacular,dirt cheap to super expensive gourmet type....nowadays just the thoughts of going to one sickens me.

Its been over a year since my last buffet....it was free,offered by a newly opened resort here in Vegas...it was OK with all those crab legs and lobster.

@leftovertoo I didn't even think about those dead lobsters sitting on ice....ur absolutely right,just like mud crabs they're only good while still alive.....

@sirrena last time I was there ages ago,I saw a guy with a pail full of big lobsters being offered on the beach for about P200/kilo,I was tempted. but back then,there's no place I can go to have them prepared.so I guess my best bet would be, as recommended(talipapa),I'm sure price has since doubled maybe tripled....giant prawns will do if no fresh lobster....

@keg

I think it has something to do with the way they cook them and the freshness of course can have a big difference in taste.....plus Chinese and Vietnamese knows how to prepare and enhance the flavor with all their fine ingredients...

@leftovertoo

Giant prawns sinigang?Yummy!....11 days to go.

I would second the suggestion of getting prawns instead. Yummy indeed!

Try finding some big fresh crabs here - the meat in the claws is sweet and delicious. I actually prefer it to local lobster. I heard some people saying that our lobsters are not "real" lobsters they are another kind of crayfish.
