What makes good souvenirs? Suggestions.

Hey guys,

What are the popular must buy souvenirs?

I'm thinking of getting sarongs, necklaces, bracelets for girls but not quite sure on the gift for guys.

Suggestions would be great.

Also do we normally bargain around here?

How about T-shirts? Yes you should try your bargaining skills in all the souvenirs you mentioned above.

200 gram packs of dried mangoes are popular: buy the better brands such as Cebu at some supermarkets.

There are beautiful framed butterflies available: I have brought them back in through Australian Customs who suggest that some species are endangered (butr I didn't have a problem). Kultura stoes may have them.

since you are on the Boracay forum, I suspect you want to buy on Boracay. Some of the suggestions mentioned you can not buy on Boracay and bring back easily to Manila and other things you can just buy in Manila. Boracay has Tshirts and trinkets, most are junk, but some look nice. Most things are not made on Boracay though

Pearls, if you know pearls, can be a cool gift for some. You can buy sarongs, etc. etc, but these things are available in other places as well. I like some of the cheap necklaces, or bracelets or jewelry you will find on the beach as well. Bargain fiercely is the rule of thumb. .

Please refrain from buying sand, coral or shell souvenirs, as well as other wildlife related items such as butterflies, purses made from frogs and other such things. There's little or no regulation as to what is endangered and what isn't. Cigars and locally made drinks are quite popular souvenirs for guys. Or local art.

A lot of shops have fixed prices but you can bargain with vendors and stallholders. The talipapa (market) is a good place to look for inexpensive souvenirs.
