Sinagpore Airlines starts to feature 'Boracay'

In what is recognition from what many say is the world's leading airline, Singapore Airlines' pop up advertisements on Internet pages are now showing (as part of its latest sale) fares to 'Bali' and 'Boracay' that are common rated ex Australia: A$784 Melbourne - Kalibo return, or A$802 Brisbane or Sydney - Kalibo return:

If one walked down a street in Sydney or Melbourne, Australia, I still do not believe that recognition of 'Boracay' would be more than two or three per cent of the population while 'Bali' (Indonesia) would have a recognition factor of 95 per cent plus.

Nonetheless, Boracay is gradually becoming better known. The entry of Cebu Pacific into Australia (Sydney only: September) and Philippine Airlines' ramping up of Manila - Sydney return flights at the end of October 2014 from four times a week to daily can only assist.

Bali has more to offer than just beaches.

it caters to all kinds of people in that sense. Makes sense more people would know more about it. Boracay caters to beachlovers and that's about it. I dont think it can handle more tourists to be honest. It is a small island with no planning whatsoever.

Bohol = Bali?

Fair comparison?

MH,

Let's just say that Bohol has better beaches, the Tarsiers and Chocolate hills.

But Bali has surfing, majestic volcanos, manicured ricefields, and beautiful art everywhere.

Bohol like most of the Philippines, is very raw. So you get that authenticity more. I have always been vocal about the kind of tourists that love the Philippines. They belong to a certain niche. They are more the adventurers.

Bali is like a work of art. So details, details everywhere. But then because of that, its culture and everything else, it caters to a wider range of people. And they are well-equipped to deal with all kinds of tourists.

Pretty different, I would say.

Agree.

Bali is more polished and Philippines is still raw as a whole.

Wonder when will Philippines will be as polished as other countries?

MH,

I dont want the Philippines to be polish before they have a definite masterplan. It just doesn't work. Bali is beautiful but more locals are suffering because of rising prices. It has become expensive for the locals and SE Asians but still very cheap to Australians (I mean look at how expensive the country is!)and other first worlders. Two edge sword.

When one has traveled so much it is not the conveniences that one looks for anymore but the "feel" of the place. The authenticity and not the commercialism or show of it. I personally find it boring after awhile. But please, no. Not yet.

True.

I don't want another "Disneyland".

How I wish I can experience Boracay 20 years ago.
