What to do on our last day

We have a 10.30pm check in for our flight home. we are not keeping our room but we know our hotel will have a secure lockup for our suitcases. We dont want to be 'hanging around' all day but we are at a loss what to do with ourselves. Can anyone advise any sightseeing trips that will keep us occupied, either by bus or a river trip.

Just some random thoughts:

1. Rent a car and drive to Melaka in Malaysia (full day outing); great old Portuguese trading port. Or just use it to visit some parts of Singapore you wouldn't otherwise see - like Seletar, an old air base with some of the best standing "black and whites"

2. Take an eco-tour to Pulau Ubin

3. Visit Kusu and/or St. John islands (www.expatsingapore.com/content/view/1334)

These assume you've done all the "standard" Singapore things.

Cheers, --Kip

Hi Kevin and Kipcole, we arrive early evening on the Monday 4th Nov. we plan just to take it easy that evening and eat either in our hotel or nearby.

Tuesday we plan on exploring Singapore itself and taking in some of the sights and probably the Flyer. That evening we are going to the Night Safari.

Wednesday morning possibly a lazy one around the pool then after lunch we plan to go to Santosa via the cable car and then catch the light show.

Thursday morning again around the pool and as yet no plans for that day.

Friday we fly home and we have been advised to make plans for that day or else we will be constantly clockwatching. Sorry Kevin but we do not plan to hire a car and I was thinking of booking an organised sightseeing tour or possibly a boat trip or both if we have enough time. I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

thanks for taking the time out to reply.

Oh just want to point out that we are not shoppers, I know this is a bit odd but we wont be wanting to go to any shopping malls unless we call in to cool down.

Hi Jane,

Ohhh no no no... I wouldn't recommend anyone to hire a car in Singapore. You wouldn't want to have to deal with traffic, tolls (we call it electronic road pricing) and parking in the city. The Singapore public transport is efficient enough to explore without a car hire to get around.

When on a holiday and especially on a last day which you will be flying home, I would advise travellers not to venture too far. You should stay and visit the sights around the city. Keep to places near your hotel. You wouldn't want to be stuck somewhere far away due to unforseen circumstances like traffic situations, road closures with diversions, floods, etc.

I would recommend a visit to the Asian Civilsation Museum and the National Museum of Singapore on your last day. You could also explore the streets of Chinatown area, Little India or Arab Street (Kampong Glam) depending on your preference. http://www.acm.org.sg and http://www.nationalmuseum.org.sg

For a tour, I would actually recommend you to join a day-trip to Malacca in Malaysia. And you should take this tour on Wed or Thu, NOT on the Fri.

hi Kevin, staying close to the hotel is our choice too, but I was wondering if there are any bus tours around the city taking a few hours or so. Cina town sounds good too.

I took the Malacca tour it was ok. You don't mention Clark Quay. Why don't you use that day to go on a walking tour and maybe go to a hawker stall

I have a similar problem as my flight is also at night

Well thanks guys for all your help, we have put together an itinerary of sorts now and I plan to book 3 trips thru Viator. Our plans are as follows:

Wednesday

around the pool for a couple of hours after breakfast

The battlefields tour from 2-5

Visiting Little India

Clares Quay

Thursday

Pool

Raffles Hotel

Singapore Flyer

Night safari

Friday

late breakfast

Guided City tour

early dinner before going to the airport.

we are staying at the Mandarin on raffles Blvd, can anyone tell me if this is an easy walk to both Raffles Hotel and the Flyer?

When in Singapore, if you are taking a taxi, you have to be very specific with the name of your hotel. I believe you are staying at Marina Mandarin?

There are 3 hotels with the "Mandarin" name. Marina Mandarin, The Mandarin Oriental and Meritus Mandarin. Otherwise, you will automatically be taken to the Meritus Mandarin Hotel along Orchard Road.
