Hello,

The Top Questions links on the right-hand side of this page might be worth a look as there are topics on:-

Visiting - What to see/do in Singapore (which provides a detailed list and description of the major sights for you to decide and make up your itinerary based on your time, budget and interests). Also topics on Shopping, Hotels, Food and Drink, JBR (Just Back Reports) from tourists who have worked out their own itineraries which you might find helpful in your planning.

Singapore would be a wonderful Honeymoon destination.

sunnyS s,

1/ the suitability of SIN as HM destination depends on WHAT you expect from your honeymoon???? And the answer only you knows. If you dream about secluded beach vacation, shady palms with pina colada etc - you are looking in the wrong direction.

2/ to familiarize yourself with SIN, start from

yousingapore.com

After you check the recourse, DECIDE -.................

For things to do and see - visit www.yoursingapore.com (its the Tourist Board website) for a standard list of attractions to get an idea of what the city has to offer that may interest you. For Sentosa it is worth examining their website www.sentosa.com.sg as it does a better job of putting the attractions there in context compared to the listings at yoursingapore.

THere are several descriptions of things to do etc in the Top Questions and Traveller articles for Singapore on Tripadvisor - again you need to browse them to get some ideas. As an FAQ there are already a lot of threads asking similar questions so again you need to research a little there to see the sort of lists and ideas given. You can also pick up the common hotel districts details in there as well.

Singapore has so much and is so varied it is essentially impossible to answer your question as it stands because you have given no idea of timespan of the visit, nor your interests which means we either guesspotentially very badly at how long you plan to stay and what you want to see or just point you at a standard list.

So moving beyond the generalities and stock answers, which should be valuable to you but generic.

The first question is really how long do you intend to stay? MOst of us regulars look at a 7-10 day stay as being necessary to really see a decent amount of Singapore in and of itself. That makes it easier to construct ideas of what to do as with that much time we can suggest a spread of the major attractions and then move into some of the more niche or less well-known ones (which are still extremely good, just not so much on the 3 day tourist circuit). Singapore is marketed in many nations as a Stopover destination and so many people assume you can visit for 3 days and see it - not true, but if you are planning to stay like that you can still construct good itineraries from the large amount to choose from. However, the choices and selection becomes very personal at that point so while we can steer you and advise you we cannot (and in my case will not) make the decisions for you on the itinerary....only you can decide what from the list of must sees are most important for you.

Second point - you need to think about where to stay. So what facilities do you expect from your accomodation. Do you want to be spending a lot of time, for example, poolside - or are you really looking to be out and about for most of the day and mostly use the hotel as a base and a bedroom. THis also feeds back on time of stay and what you can/want to see in the time.

Third - Getting about, again this can affect or be directed by previous choices. A luxury hotel a distance from the MRT means you will be looking to get taxis everywhere, one closer to an MRT station means you maybe thinking about using trains.

Fourth - food. Food is an attraction of itself in SIngapore. Its pretty much everywhere but you do want to think of places that are special that you might want to consider as a particular night out.

So does it work as a honeymoon destination. Well I pretty much have to say yes, since it was part of mine (combined in my case with the Maldives). The one area that Singapore simply does NOT do well at all is beach. Probably the best is the Rasa Sentosa hotel and even that is, well, pretty much 'adequate' at best. If you want only a beach and nothing else as your honeymoon, then its not a good destination. If you want a beach as part of your honeymoon plans then as a massive transport hub you have a huge number of options beach holiday locations that you can combine Singapore's sights with in a two centre holiday....from the 45 minute ferry trip to Bintan and its resorts, to Malaysian and Thai islands within an hour or two's flight though to further afield with the Maldives etc a few hours away on easy air links. If you don't want a beach then Singapore will most certainly keep you busy and there are many excellent hotels which have excellent facilities for you to spend time in if you do not want to be spending all you time out.
