MRT ride

Hi,

How long is the MRT ride from airport to Bugis area? how much does it cost? Is it easy to get to MRT from the airport?

haven't been to singapore and with less than 12 hours of layover. I don't have time to mess around.

(I need to choose between a hotel at Bugis or a hotel close by the airport.... can't decide)

Thanks

Hello ShihD,

Travel time is about 35-40 minutes with one transfer at Tanah Merah Station. Fare is about $1.55 /pax. At Changi airport, the MRT station is at the basement of T2. It is clearly signposted and you can transfer between terminals via the skytrain.

Oh the link does not work. Copy and paste to your browser. And note depending on your arrival time, the MRT may not be the easiest mode of transport to get to the city although it is the cheapest.

Also, you do not have many choices for hotels near the airport and generally, they are not in the budget category.

The airport MRT station is underneath the airport, so yes - 2 terminals connect directly into either end, the third terminal you need to use the 3 minute skytrain landside to connect over and then go in. All signposted clearly.

A standard ticket for Bugis area is 2.20SGD per person. Travel time will be around 35mins travel time plus any waiting time at the aiport for a train and at the transfer point at Tanah Merah (typically 5 mins for each). You get on the MRT at the airport, change at Tanah Merah (which means cross a platform 5metres max) then carry on into the city to Bugis 8 stops later.

A taxi will take 20mins is closer to the arrival hall than the station and while it will cost 20-25SGD depending upon time of day if you do not have time to mess about then don't mess about and are looking at saving minutes, grab the taxi - its quickest and should trim your transit times by about 30mins total if you go to the city.

As for the hotel decision if all you plan to do is rest then just get the cheapest package - taking into account transport costs....though if you are sleeping any significant chunk of the time you won't have much time to do anything in the city. Sort your sleeping to match jetlag issues.

Thank you both for detailed info on MRT . Approximating 10SGD cab ride to hotel near airport (I am just guessing here), it might not always be cheaper to stay in the Bugis area considering transportation...

I need some experts to shed light on the possibility of checking out Singapore. My flight will arrive Singapore 8pm, and my connecting flight leaves 8:55am the next day. If I get in the city, it will be after 9pm. Is it still worth it to go all the way into the city, check it out, and stay in a hotel there? Even if I sleep for only a few hours, it will be late into the night. Or perhaps, I needn't bother, just stay near the airport, and spend my free time in the airport.....

Help please.

Hmm.... Tiger air...

Assuming you arrived as scheduled, with TigerConnect you can check in for your next flight airside and can stay at the Transit Hotel. You will have your boarding pass and that will allow you to leave the terminal building and check the city out, before returning to stay at the Transit Hotel. Imo, you will likely spend the time at Marina Bay as the lights around the Bay will be on until around midnight and the casino is 24/7. Depending on the day you are here, you may even get to see the 11pm show of Wonderful.

Note: Transit Hotel requires advance booking and minimum of 6 hour block.

Without TigerConnect, you can stay landside at The Haven at T3. Details here

So there is really no need to stay in the city. And with limited places to go to check out the city, you may just want to spend the time at Changi instead.

My $0.02. Hope this helps.

hi, Changi Village Hotel is near the Airport and may be more convenient if you don't plan to visit the city.

V Hotel Lavender is halfway between the airport and the city and sits on top of a mrt station.
