Nearly booked..

Sorry have a few more questions. Is the MTR as easy to ride on in Singapore as it is in Hong Kong ? I assume you can get a card similar to their Octopus card. If so what else can it be used for. And last question ... sorry it's probably been asked a zillion times .... Can we take the normal duty free 1 litre of alcohol and a carton of cigarettes each with us from Aus. 98% certain to stay at Sentosa Resort & Spa. towards the end of Feb.

Singapore does have a smart card similar to Octopus called E Z Link, however it is not nearly as widely accepted as Octopus. Yes it can be used on the MRT but not for store purchases etc. Generally its less economic than is Octopus and most visitors tend to just pay the cash fare which usually is between $1 and $2. A $1 deposit is also charged, refunded on completion of journey. There are fewer options in Sg to choose re different lines but it is as easy to navigate and compares in the cleanliness stakes.

1 Litre of Duty free booze yes but you may not import ciggies. Usual duty free on departure though.

Have a great trip.

The MRT is easy. The Octopus equivalent card is the EZ-link card which costs 15SGD up front. That gets you 3SGD returnable deposit, 7SGD of travel credit and includes a 5SGD fee for the card that is not returnable. It works on the buses as well. Not sure if it can be used elsewhere but I think there is some scheme for that in place or on the way.

Not a problem with MRT in SG. You may want to try buying the SG tourist pass, which not only entires you to unlimited travel on buses and train, but comes with other promotion. Help yourself to the site below.

Singapore's EZ-link card works somewhat the same way as Hongkong's Octopus, which you can use for travelling on the subway and on buses. Tap to enter and tap to exit from the MRT. There is one difference on buses, in Singapore, you need to tap on boarding and tap again at the exit to alight. Singapore bus fares are tierd and the charges are based on distance travelled, whereas for Hongkong, bus fares are a flat-charge.

Unlike Hongkong where you can pay for your purchases at 7-Eleven or Circle K, you can't do much with Singapore's EZ-link, perhaps at most only at McDonald's.
