RE: Is there enough time to catch our flight?

I need help from the experts! We will be flying roundtrip from Los Angeles (LAX) Singapore with Cathay Pacific where we will embark on a 14 day cruise, ending in Singapore. We plan on making a side trip to Chiang Mai, flying from Singapore roundtrip. Here's my question, the flight from Chiang Mai to Singapore is scheduled to arrive 15:45PM. We then have to get to Cathay Pacific to catch a flight that leaves 6:30pm from Singapore to LAX. Will we have enough time to catch our flight on Cathay? Or is it too risky? If we need to stay overnight close to Singapore airport, are there any inexpensive hotel to stay?

Thanks, your reply will greatly help us in planning the side trip to Chiang Mai.

hi, landing at 15:45 and departure at 18:30; You'll be fine with almost 2h45 of transit.

If you are flying from Chiang Mai with a full airline you'll able to collect your boarding pass to LA and get your checked luggage transferred at the transfer counter within the transit area.

If your are flying with a budget airline you'll have to clear immigration, collect your luggage and proceed to Cathay counters for check-in. Although the process with a budget airline is much more time consuming you have enough time to catch your flight to LA.

Is that flight leaving at 16.30 or 6.30pm? If its 16.30 then you probably wont make it unless its the same airline and your bags are checked through. If its 6.30 then you have plenty of time.

Dear HuoW,

Our choice for airline from Singapore to Chiang Mai (roundtrip) is Silk Air (or I've seen flights listed with Singapore Airlines...will either one allow us to transfer our luggage at the transit area?

Thank you so much for your invaluable information and the link.

Dear Mankster

Good question, I better double check if it is 16:30pm or 18:30pm as it would make a big difference. If in fact, it is 16:30pm and we will not have enough time, do you have any recommendation for hotel near the airport?

Thank you,

Lena

SilkAir is a full airline - subsidiary of Singapore Airlines - so you should be able to collect your boarding pass and make your luggage transferred to your connecting flight within the transit area.

Information from Changi Airport website:

>>...(a) If you are connecting from a full service carrier flight to another.

If you have your boarding pass (with a seat allocation) for your connecting flight, you may proceed directly to the gate for your connecting flight. If you do not have a boarding pass for your connecting flight, you should proceed to the nearest Transfer counter in the terminal of your connecting flight. You will then be issued with a boarding pass and arrangements will be made for the transfer of your baggage to your connecting flight...<<

Dear Huow,

I do appreciate your quick reply and further info. I just want to clarify that once we land in Singapore from Chiang Mai at 15:45; our next flight is not a "connecting flight", but a complete separate flight with Cathay (our return flight to Los Angeles; LAX-Singapore-LAX). So we definitely will not have a boarding pass yet for the Cathay, unless we are able to check in online while in Chiang Mai that same day of our flight.

In this situation, does your reply still applies? Thank you so much for taking the time to help us.

Good Day,

Lena

Did you manage to confirm the flight of your Cathay Pacific flight? If it is 1630, then you won't have enough time (1545 will the be the wheels down time of you incoming Silk air flight - at least 1600 by the time you get to the terminal).

If it 1830 then you will be fine.
