5 Hour Stopover in Singapore

We will be arriving in singapore at 6.25pm and don't depart for the UK until 11.00pm. It seems a long time to be in the terminal. Any ideas on what to do? Is it possible to take a tour? Anyy free shuttle buses etc etc. Maybe we could go somewhere nice for a drink and light snack. Answers appreciated. Thank you.

there is the Free Singapore Tour ..but the last bus for this leave at 4pm ..so this would not be an option for you ...Changi Airport is like a giant shopping mall...many many places to eat ...a movie theatre which is free ....a swimming pool...a number of lounges where you can just chill out with a drink or two ....free internet...all of which will help you past the time quickly

I would not suggest a quick trip down town ..you may get caught up in traffic on the way back etc...and you are able to move from terminal to terminal whilst staying airside

If you land at 6.25, you can probably clear immigration and be out of the terminal by 7pm. To catch your 11pm flight, you should be back at the airport by say 9.30pm. That means you have only about 2 1/2 hrs to for your trip to the city. I don't think its worth the hassle as you will encounter the evening rush/traffic. There's a mall "Changi Point" near by but since Changi Airport itself is like a mall, I don't think its worth leaving the airport simply to visit a mall.

There is so much to see and do at Changi Airport, you will not get bored at all spending 5 hrs between your flights.

Free Singapore Tour

If you are transiting in Singapore and have at least 5 hours to spare before your connecting flight, you can register for a 2 hour sightseeing tour of Singapore, with a choice of a Colonial Tour or Cultural Tour. Registration is based on first-come-first-serve basis and are subject to entry visa requirements stipulated by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. Certain conditions apply.

Cultural Tour

Route: From Changi Airport to Kampong Glam, Little India & Chinatown.

Experience a fascinating potpourri of sights, sounds and smells to excite the senses as we take you on an unforgettable journey through some of the most vibrant ethnic areas of Singapore.

First up is Kampong Glam which showcases the rich history and culture of Singapore’s Malay community. Originally a fishing village at the mouth of Rochor River, this area was also the historic seat of Malay royalty in Singapore. Thereafter, the tour shall proceed to Little India, where its spice-scented streets beckon you to a cornucopia of ethnic jewellery, jasmine garlands and silk saris, complemented by delightful rows of Indian restaurants. To cap off the tour, a visit to Chinatown is a must, with a 15-minute stopover at the oldest temple in Singapore, the 160-year-old Thian Hock Keng Temple.

Contrasting cultures and quaint architectural germs make this a not to-be-missed tour and a splendid way to pass your time while in transit at Changi Airport.

*In the event of rain, the visit to Thien Hock Temple will be cancelled.

Colonial Tour

Route: From Changi Airport to Singapore River & Raffles Landing Site

From a quaint fishing village inhabited by the Orang Laut (translates as “People of the Sea”) to a busting metropolis, Singapore has undertaken a remarkable journey of transformation in just under 200 years since the British first set foot here.

Retrace the fascinating footsteps of history and showcase Singapore’s colonial legacy. Experience the juxtaposition of past, present and future as we take you on a 20-minute walk along the scenic Singapore River and to the renowned Raffles Landing Site. Continue the bus journey to enjoy the sights of Pandang, Supreme Court, City Hall, War Memorial and St Andrew’s Cathedral, as well as the famous Raffles Hotel - Singapore’s most graceful colonial landmark named after its founder Sir Stamford Raffles.

Classic colonial architectural highlights framed against the modern day skyline of the bustling city-state, this Colonial tour is certainly not to be missed.

*In the event of rain, the 20-minute walk at the Singapore River will be cancelled.

The last Free Tour from Changi departs at 4pm and OP will land at 6.25 pm, so the option of taking the Free Tour has to be ruled out.

If you have not been to Singapore before then it would be a waste not to visit the city for a few hours. I imagin your bags are already check through and you have your boarding pass for your next flight. If you land at 6.25 I expect you will in the centre of town(City Hall MRT station) by 7.25 if you take the MRT train from the airport for $2. Taxi would save you 15 minutes or so but cost $20. That will give you a good 3 hours before you want to think about taking the MRT back to the airport at 9.30 (30 min or so train journey). Gates close 10min before the flight so reaching the airport at 10pm will leave you with plenty of time.

In 3 hours, you can have a cheap tasty meal in a food Court, take a trip on the Singapore Flyer or go on the observation deck of MBS, take a river cruise along the Singapore River and take in the city lights and have a drink at Raffles before heading back.
